Toucan / Tiscali again

Damn,
I was sucked into the cheap 2mb uncapped ADSL & Telephone package from Toucan. They are a VISP using Tiscali, as far as I can tell. Having migrated from Tesco 512mb over to the 2mb service I was very keen to experience this new speed. Marvellous I thought as Toucan & Tesco support MAC. Great I thought when first thing in the morning I get about 1900kbps, not too bad I thought. Then in the evening, guess what, 150kbs if i'm lucky !!! My downloads are back to dial up day's.
Whilst the Tech Support appears to be in Bangalore, they at least seem friendly, polite and answer the phone reasonbly quickly, but they are not going to fix the problem with Tiscali's insufficient capacity to support their concurrent user base.
Now looking at all the other posts, it seems Tiscali are unlikely to resolve this issue, so while i'm in the cooling off period still, should I cut my losses and transfer to another ISP ??
Any suggestions on a good ADSL & Telephone combi ? I do need an all calls free (except to mobile & abroad) and uncapped ADSL package.
Cheers

Not sure who your going to go with next, I am with F2S and have no problems at all. However there is some rumbling on the forums about them being slow/starting to have problems. I think this is more with the LLU side of things. They offer phone packages as well I think. Worth a look anyway. Zen is the other one to consider imo.

Whatever you do, if your still in the cooling off period, get away from Tiscali ASAP, they are total junk.

I totally agree with you about Toucan. I've been with them a year and they are rubbish. Had nothing but problems with them. I'm moving to another ISP as soon as possible (this week!). Anyone thinking of going with Toucan - DON'T!!!!

Ahh, Toucan Telecom, had an unsolicited phone call some weeks ago from an Irish salesman representing them, strange as I could have sworn our number has been registered with the Telephone Preference Service for years.

"Hello, Mr potential sucker, I am happy to tell you that, as a BT customer you are now entitled to free weekend calls, all I need to do is confirm your details. <reads out address probably gleaned from BT phonebook and asks for confirmation>"

Only admitted he was calling on behalf of toucan telecom after being repeatedly challenged to confirm he was BT

I wouldn't touch them with a ten foot barge pole

I was with Tiscali Until Earlier this Year - F2S Are Great

I moved from Tiscali earlier in the year after being capped really bad by Tiscali, I went with Freedom 2 Surf, and have not looked back since then, although I am a little worried that Pipex has taken them over it seems several weeks ago? However so far so good, I use the full premium package and have yet to pay off my first years subscription charges included in my monthly rental. I have no complaints about F2S they are a good choice at the moment. :)

I have just managed to get toucan to cancel the contract early (at no cost to me). I also got last months calls and BB cost cancelled.

The new FUP is:

Toucan has a Fair Usage Policy which endeavours to ensure our broadband service remains fast and available to all users at all times. Very high usage by some users results in slow speeds for our other customers. A copy of this policy is available at www.toucan.com/products/toucansurf/fup.pdf ; Clause 7 outlines the situation regarding excessive usage.

We monitor high usage on a weekly basis. Over the last week, your downloads and uploads have totalled 28.3 GB, which exceeds our usage threshold of 3 GB a week.

We have therefore arranged for you to share bandwidth with other high users for the next seven days. Over this period, your access speed during peak periods will be determined both by your own usage level and by the usage of users with whom you are sharing bandwidth. Peak hours are 6pm-11pm, Monday to Sunday and Bank Holidays.

At the end of this period we will review the situation and, if your usage is no longer excessive, restore your service to its previous status.

Please find below some tips on reducing your Internet usage:
Turn off your Internet connection when you're not using it
Reduce the number of movies or music files you download
Reduce the number of times you share files across the Internet, and/or reduce the size of those files
Log off online game sites when not playing.
Thank you for your cooperation.

Now this is a unlimited service, but is capped at 3GB!! work that out. Thats not even one movie a day from Sky Broadband (free service to Sky Subscribers).

If anyone is in a contract with them and want to get out email me, I might be able to help.
