Tozed ZLT X21 review aka Unicom VN007+

Ordered 2nd August via Ali Express, arrived today.

Currently unboxing, any questions?

Ordered from here:

Sadly came with a uk travel adapter, not a real uk power supply, requires a 12V 2A, but luckily I have a 12V 1.5A I can use.
Don't know why people are so bothered about the travel adapters, it's nearly irrelevant. It is a very real power supply.

So the included 'adapters' have got open connections in that if you were to pull the supply out of the adapter, you'd have direct access to 230V, incredibly dangerous. UK plug sockets have shutters controlled by the earth pin that prevent anything getting into them - also why the child safe socket blockers are also not safe.

Not VN007 - different chipset but similar design for sure.

Q's include:
Bridge mode?
Cell Locking?
Band locking?
B32 support?

Yeah, safety is another matter. Btw if it has a european plug, then you don't really need the adapter. Just push down on the earth thingy to open the socket and insert the plug, still unsafe, but at least it'll sit tight in the socket.

B32 support yes

Why do you believe it's not the VN007?

Different chipset entirely. VN007 is Unisoc V510, this is IVY510. Not seen anything anywhere that suggests they're the same.

Honestly, I prefer using a shaver adapter, they typically only have a small fuse and fit a European adapter very snug

X21 and vn007 share the same firmware

The problem I have with them is they don't fit into socket strips well, depending on the adapter. Few of them are fused/earthed too. Ok that's not always a problem for a double insulated live/neutral only appliance but earthed ones exist and the EU seems to generally not care about earthing and the same is true of adapters.

Finally some are good and some are bad, IMHO. Some grip the pins in a very small area, leading to a small cross section delivering all the power. Not too good.

I guess I just don't like them. I don't see why they can't supply one for UK markets. It's not like the don't exist.

There's a difference between shaver adapters and European adapters. Euro plugs are round pin. Shaver plugs are flat pin so even if you can get a Euro plug to fit a shaver adapter it won't be a very good fit.
Pushing in the earth socket and jamming a two pin plug in a three pin socket is asking for trouble. I've done it but it is still bad practice.
Get a proper fused Euro adapter.

The Chinese supplied 'adapters' should really be renamed deathapters as they rarely have a fuse or shuttering, and do not comply with BS1363.

The premise of the UK ring main which can deliver 30-ish amps is that plugs should all be fused with a suitable fuse to protect the mains flex and/or device from a fault. Whilst many plug top transformers do not have a fuse because there's no mains flex, it does mean that you can potentially get a fault current of 30 amps (13 amps if in a extension cable) before the item goes 'pop' or 'kaboom'. Unfortunately an increasing number of domestic fires are caused by dubious plug top devices with poor electrical protection designed in.

If you can use a fused travel adapter or shaver adapter you are at least giving yourself half a chance of limiting some unwanted damage if something goes wrong.

How are you finding it @meritez ? Speeds?
I like how it says UNISOC IVY510/Qualcomm X55. Typical Aliexpress..
I am curious to see if it performs any different to a VN007. Planning any mods/teardown ?

The ZLT X20 was Qualcomm X55, so it's probably lazy sellers who originally offered both models.

No SIM to test with at present, can teardown if you want to see the insides?

Firmware links and stuff:

Latest firmware is 1.14.0

From 1.9.32 I had to install 1.10.2 to allow me to update to 1.14.0

Interesting points from the Manufacturer's website:

The 5G max speeds are 2 Gbps DL and 1 Gbps UL
The 4G speeds are CAT12 600 Mbps DL and 150 Mbps UL
Band 32 is not listed as supported.
I believe the /Qualcomm X55 on the chipset means equal to, though I may crack this open to have a look.

another device that is also a vn007:

5G CPE M131

Band 32 is not listed as supported.
Hi. When you go in the band lock section, do you see B32?
I can see on mine (vn007+, but older version firmware), as such I assumed it is supported, although never verified it.
