Training period fault

Does anyone know when the training period for bb starts, this is a first time setup.

Email received 18th Sept saying it was now active.

Didn't actually plug in a try it until 23rd Sept.
It worked with this result

23.09. (First day connected)
Download speedachieved during the test was - 4211 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :5632 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 4500 Kbps

(Estimate for the line is 4000Kbps, distance 2.1 miles)
I switched off the pc (not router) and next time I used it no bb.

Raised a fault, and this was fixed 26 Sept.
Did another Bt test and profile has dropped.

26.09
Download speedachieved during the test was - 2674 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :4064 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 3000 Kbps

So when does the training period end, and should I just leave everything and hope it increases on it own.

Should I ask the Isp to check their settings for the profile, although I suspect that is 3000 kbps as well.

The router may be faulty it is s/hand. Should I change it now, or wait and see.

Is it correct that this is a VERY important time as the exchange is setting the benchmark for the future.

thanks

If your router was on and working during the fault, it may have selected a lower speed to try and overcome the fault.
Try unplugging the router and all ADSL filters from the phone sockets for 40 minutes, then plug them all in and try again.
This should reset the exchange equipment and start the training period again; however, you rarely get to keep the high speeds from day 1, the line speed will gradually be lowered until the connection is STABLE.
If you want to eke out the maximum possible speed from your line, either buy a BT Broad Band front plate (or whatever they are calling them this month), or undo the front of your master socket and plug the router into the "Test" socket underneath

This should reset the exchange equipment and start the training period again.........

Thats good because I have been given the impression that this is a now or never time.

The router was on during the fault as I was asked to leave it on during the investigation, but I did have to reboot a couple of times as I checked my own settings.

I'll trying unplugging as suggested after I get a new router and filters.

I have never had any trouble with the telephone line, nice loud dial tone no crackles, and the adsl has always been connected to test socket..

I'd try it before buying any new equipment, although if you are using the router supplied by the ISP, these tend to be cheap and nasty; OK if the line is perfect, but giving lower stable speeds if there is a problem.
My Step-Father got given a Thompson router that could only connect at 700Kb, we swapped it for a Netgear and it went up to 2.2Mb and settled at about 1.7Mb.

NOTE, I am not recommending Netgear, their installer software has not worked on ANY PC I have tried it with; and the software for their USB dongles is even worse.
In each case I have had to delve through the CD and launch the set-up files manually.

Have you got the line stats from the router it will help me advise you as best I can.

10 day training period starts the first time you log in to your new connection. Once the training period is complete the Max stable rate and Fault threshold rate will be set. See Broadband Max Myths and Legends for more details. It's a pdf, just google and it's near the top.

Unplugging all adsl equipment for 20-30 minutes resets the line(40 minutes to be sure), believe me this works for all non LLU/cable lines.

Have you got the line stats from the router ..

I had to get these using the cable, for some reason the AP beacon in windows doesn't shown on both my pcs.
I am waiting for a new Belkin to be delivered.

SNR Margin 11 19
Line Attenuation 49 30
Data Rate 3136 448

Estimate for the line 4000 Kbps Distance 2.1mls exchange.

Where do you have the router plugged in to and do you have any extension sockets?

I see that I haven't mentioned that on saturday the Isp sent me a text saying that they had fixed the problem and that I should now be back online, which I am.

What I am hopeing for is that when I start useing the new router, the profile will go back to its original 4500Kbps.

The telephone wire has always been in the test socket.

Hi Fontwell,

How is the line at the moment, hope your provider has managed to sort it.

Well the profile is still well down.

Service went down today, couldn't restart it the first time useing the connect button in the browser window, but it did in the end.

I got a new filter, but when I connect the telephone and router lines to it that created a slight hiss, so I have stayed with the old one for now..
