Transfer phone number from Vodafone

Vodafone broadband includes a phone line and number, what might happen if I switched to a VOIP provider and transferred the number. In particular could I resurrect the phone option from Vodafone in the future if the VOIP didn't work out for me for some reason?

By "resurrect the phone option" do you mean you are pondering if you could go back to a PSTN analogue phone line with dial tone? The answer is broadly no if it would be to an ISP that uses OpenReach as PSTN is on stop sell.

It might still be possible to order a LLU (local loop unbundled) old fashioned phone line from ISPs that have that deployed but that depends on local availability and ultimately you're swimming the wrong way against the tide.

I understood the question differently as “Can I port my Vodafone landline number to a VoIP provider, and can I bring it back to Vodafone if I change my mind?”

The answer is likely a no. I’m pretty sure if you port the number out that it terminates your broadband as the two are linked with Vodafone. Also Vodafone don’t seem to have that many agreements in place for number porting either. They definitely seem to be one of the more difficult providers for getting landline numbers in or out of from what I’ve seen.

You could well be right that porting the phone number from a Voda FTTP connection could terminate the overall service.

On my OpenReach Voda FTTP I effectively had three separate services with three different reference numbers.... The broadband and it's account number which was a ten digit number, the phone line and it used the phone number of the landline as the account number, and the backup 4G SIM card which used it's SIM number as the account number. All account numbers seemed to be treated equally, entering one always brought up all three services jointly in the Voda portal. This doesn't probably help either way to know if you can port the landline phone number without causing the entire contract to cease but the fact that it appears to be built as three separate yet joint/bundled services might give some hope.
