Treo 600, P900 & MS Smartphone 2003

So, anybody thinking of getting one of the forthcoming smartphones, like the three listed in the subject title?

I quite fancy the next MS one (based on Mobile 2003 OS) from Orange, although it hasn't been announced yet - only rumours - and if it doesn't support Bluetooth then I won't bother.

There's also the Treo 600, which looks stunning, but if it's too big then I may just bag a P900 instead.

surely P800's are going cheaper now. A few people here at work have P800's and I can't see any real advantage to the 900 over the 800.

What's their real-world battery life like Arm? Often mobiles with larger displays tend to need a re-charge far too often. If it can't work for at least three+ full days without one then I usually count it out as a choice.

Not too shabby for something with a big display. I'll wait to see how much it comes down in price next to the P900.

Is the 4 days going to be typical usage or is it based on what the manufacture claims. If its the manufactures claimed figure I would tend to divide by two to get a realistic figure.

He said he charges his phone every four days so I reckon its real useage. Seeing doom on a phone is surreal too.

Ahhh you can get Doom on anything these days ;), even some Digital Cameras.

It's a pity Quake never got fully ported to Symbian or MS Mobile 2002/2003, the low res and higher speed CPUs could just about cope with it at a playable speed. Mind you, battery life would be killed.

The Treo 600 is a bit bigger than the SPV, I certainly wouldn't call it the same size. It's not quite so thick, but it's a fair bit wider and about as high.

They had one in the local phone shop and I liked the big screen, although no effort had been put into giving it a unique interface for the Palm OS. It's not bad, but I've never liked the bland Palm look, so I'll skip it.

I don't like the look of the P800, although the P900 has everything I need so I may pay the extra and wait for that. It'll also be interesting to see whether the first SPV E200 release includes the new higher resolution option that MS just announced for it at a developers conference.

I'll wait to see what the first SPV E200 reviews say during early November.

Yeah I know about that, used on my first PocketPC some years ago, but hasn't really been updated since. There's a port of Quake for the P800/900 as well, although it hasn't been released to the public, yet.

In the end I got a P800 for £235 from eBay, which isn't bad going as they usually go for a bit more than that ;) . So far so good, although the 4K colour screen and awful camera quality are serious low points. Oh and no real 'profiles'.
