TV out Cables

My wife got a laptop not long ago and it apparently has a TV out...
In the box it has a cable which looks like this...

(I apologise for my lack of photographic skills!)

Now....That to me looks like an old down mouse cable...But with only 4 pins on it...Although it will go in the back of her lappy...There is nothing for it on the TV...

I need either a SCART or one of the older RF type plugs...

Anyone know where to get one or indeed if it IS in fact a TV out cable..
The only other TV out cables are the standard 3 pin A/V RF setup that connects to a SCART or suchlike....

Thanks guys

Thats the strangest TV out cable ive seen. What brand of Laptop is it? it looks similar to the tv out on the back of my mums dell but not quite the same. As for getting hold of the cable, maplins might be your best bet. Just of out interest does the non 4pin end not fit into the back of the tv, that just looks like a standard RF? if it does only take RF your picture is going to look very average, especially if its on a fairly big tv. Does the laptop not have Svideo or DVI/VAG out, that could prove to be a lot better especially if your tv is a LCD or plasma.

That looks like an S-Video cable. You can get S-Video->Scart adapters, but your TV must support S-Video otherwise the picture will be black and white.

Thanks guys...

Its a Packard Bell ...... This one

As to connecting it to the TV it would really need to be a SCART connector...
But saying that our TV is an older Matsui (Perfectly fine for us) about 10 years old or so. It has a windup motor on the side its that old!

So if what Agrajag is saying I *REALLY* doubt it will work OK...

Looks like she will have to watch vids on her lappy screen.

Thanks guys.

If the TV supports SVHS input on one of its scart sockets it will most likely have a switch somewhere or a setting on the onscreen menus, to switch between composite and SVHS input.

Other than that you'd need a proper SVHS-> composite signal converter:- http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?ITAG=FAQ&ModuleNo=28733&doy=7m3#faq

EDIT: A stupid question I guess, but you have checked that there isn't a SVHS input hidden under a flap on the front of the TV.

Don't give up hope, your TV may still support S Video as mentioned. Some graphics adapters have an option to output composite video rather than S Video, this should work on ANY TV that has a scart input.

Another problem is because you have an older TV, it may not support PAL 60 (A 525 line 60hz signal rather than the normal 625 line 50hz), which is what most graphics adapters put out these days...

I'd like to use my cable if I can get away with it and keep the costs down.

In that case its for me to get to maplins!
Good job we have a big one near here!
