Im trying to get up a server for my finial year project.
At the moment i have configured be toa virtual server using VirtualBOX : LAMP server
I have brought the domain name www.torrentchain.com with godaddy.

How do i configure it so when people type in the doamin www.torrentchain.com they will be redirected to my server. I can display the server pages on my network (internal) but when i try extrenal such as at a friends house. They do not dispaly.

Need you help ASAP.
Can you try and explain it simple aswell.

Thanks Giles102

For a start you are returning several Sky IP addresses and an internal address for the A records.

;; QUESTION SECTION:
;torrentchain.com. IN A

;; ANSWER SECTION:
torrentchain.com. 3600 IN A 90.207.238.99
torrentchain.com. 3600 IN A 90.217.139.54
torrentchain.com. 3600 IN A 192.168.0.15
torrentchain.com. 3600 IN A 90.207.238.97

If the website is externally facing you should not really have a local 192.168.x.x address as this will confuse things.
If you only have one single IP from Sky then delete the other old / incorrect Sky ip addresses from the GoDaddy DNS control panel.

Make sure that you have forwarded port 80 on your router through to your server. It may also be a good idea to enable or check if "Nat loopback" is enabled on your router. This means you can visit http://90.207.238.97 (or whatever your external Sky IP is) and still see the website you are expecting to see.

If all of the above is done you should be good to go.

ISPs that give you dynamic IP addresses could cause problems with running a web server as your IP will change almost everytime you reconnect, depending upon how the ISP allocates its addresses. Ideally you should have a static IP or setup a DNS for your home connection that updates automatically everytime your IP changes. I forget the software for doing this simply but there are various methods.
