just saw this story on the BBC website which immediately took my attention, was a very interesting read..

Broadband industry leaders are to meet ministers to discuss how to stop the UK dropping into the internet "slow lane".

full story located here

hopefully we get to see it on the front page, or there will be some interesting debate posted about it in the near future as lm very interested on the next step in this matter.

Yep' could be some interesting developments soon!!.I wonder how long it would be if the FTTC [Fibre to the Cabinet] technology was implemented , before the ISP's started blaming the remaining short length of"copper wire" connections for any glitches in users' connections .Perhaps the "last mile" as is now referred to for the copper wire from the exchange...will become the "last yard" !! I watch with baited breath :rolleyes:....not expecting any earth shattering developments yet for a while though. The U/K seems to lagging behind the rest of Europe/The World in just about everything these days

indeed, like l said we need BT split up, technicaly they are a monopoly l think US law deals with those kinda things better in order to make competition, like someone rightly said if you really think about it there is two reasons they dont want to install fibre...

1. cost (they wont be able to fill the shareholders wallets as much for a while)
2. ManOfMeans rightly said it, the other reason they dont want to install a fibre based network is because they would be forced to share it with LLU based providers by regulatory bodies.
