Unbelievable Fritz!Box fault - cured!

I received a phone call on my system (Zen router, BT 4600 base with triple handsets), but couldn't answer it because the green 'answer' button on the handset didn't seem to do anything!
Obviously, this was a handset problem, as it was the handset which wasn't working.
So I replaced the batteries (luckily I had spares) and waited for them to recharge, then using my mobile I called my landline again.
Same problem!
I spent a while contacting the BT shop and helplines on my mobile and PC (no useful response), then in desperation (I'm disabled and need the phone line) I used the Zen helpdesk.
Unexpectedly, in amongst the usual rubbish (e.g. 'check the unit is plugged into the mains' etc.) Zen suggested I reboot the router, which was obviously rubbish 'cos the router was allowing me to access Zen using my PC.
In desperation (and to rule out the suggested 'cure') I unplugged the Zen box for 5 mins, then restarted it and the problem was solved/avoided!
So even though it was "obviously" nothing to do with the router, in fact, it was!
So I tell this rambling tale in case anyone else has a similar problem with a Zen Fritz!Box and BT 4600 phones. The old saw of "turn it off and on again" sometimes does the trick!

Personally I have found the Fritz!Box to be very stable indeed. Mine is battery powered and has uptime of months at a time and rock solid.

Things that might help:
1) Make sure your FRITZ!OS is up to date
2) Reboot it periodically, via web interface Under System > Backup > Restart

3) Check the POTS wiring, more specially the REN. The Fritzbox can only really support REN 1 to about 1.5. If you have a lot of internal wiring and high REN phones connected, that might be causing you problems. Your BT4600 has a REN of 1, so if you have any additional telephone equipment on the telephone line, this may be causing you issues.
