unfortunately i live in a virgin media area

i purchased a house back in December of last year and very quickly I started getting letters from virgin basically trying to get me over on there network. after a few months of getting bombarded with junk mail from virgin I attempted to call them, I say attempted as they have no phone number for non customers who want to complain.

not that I would go with a company wasting tens of thousands of pounds on mailing costs weekly sending needless annoying spam but I thought for a laugh while I was talking to the wrong department I let them quote me after they quoted me silly, I said now can I be transferred to someone who can remove me from this spam list. I spoke to someone in customer services who told me they could only stop the mail that was being post to my address and not the letters that I receive "dear occupier"(no address).
well I no longer get a letter every week or two but im still receiving crap mail from them 1 or 2 times a month now they sometimes try clever stuff like send there crap in unmarked envelopes so you actually have to open it rather than just chuck it in the bin.
I really just want it to stop as the more letters I get from this company the less likely In the future I would ever go over to them im actually hating them now and they haven't even had chance to upset me as a customer.
im happy with the isp I have at the moment so why would I change in fact im tide to a contract so couldn't change even if I was totally mad and actually wanted to go to this isp.

Sadly Nick I think you'll find that junk letters / promotions from ISPs, especially Virgin Media, BT and TalkTalk, is a plague that most people suffer.. myself included. I'd agree though that Virgin Media seem to be the worst and we get at least one new bit of new promotional junk from them every single week, which is advertising overkill.

But you can opt-out of "unaddressed" marketing mail here if you really can't stand it:

I haven't bothered, we just stick all of this stuff in a bag and use it on November 5th :)

I get regular junk from Virgin inviting me to join their superfast cable network even though I don't live in a cable area and they have no plans to install it here.

my problem is BT and TalkTalk. not a week goes by when l dont get one letter or another.

tho with TalkTalk that are just letters to the occupier, BT however address all their junkmail to my dad which is weird because the phone bill before we moved to Sky was in my name and my dad hasnt had the phone bill in his name for getting on six years now which is weird.. in fact l was constantly complaining at them when l was with BT because they wouldnt let me do anything on my account because every time l called back it would revert to my fathers name, l generally had to prove l was the bill payer by getting them to look at my billing details before they would listen.

Get BT adverts and deals here even though I have a line and broadband with them!
Also get talktalk marketing too ... all just addressed to the occupier.
My dad, in a VM area, gets weekly junk mail from them too.

s'ok tho, l put it in the recycling so that way l can save a few trees lol.

Thank you for all your replies I think I will register myself with that royal mail link that mark.j supplied and see what happens also I did look at that complaints link you posted but I think I can get virgin so would not be applicable to me.

Nickc4555, unfortunately I think I can get virgin as there cabinet is only a couple of doors up from my property and when I got this house I looked at houses near me to see what way TV aerials were facing and noticed hardly anyone has a TV aerial or sky dish as I’m guessing most of them have virgin for TV etc and as my property didn’t have a dish or an aerial and from the box I removed from the wall im guessing my property originally had virgin.

Timeless, I have had other isps mail me in fact I only had a letter this week from a non-virgin isp also got another virgin letter just in case I hadn’t noticed the last to many letters I had already received I don’t mind if I get the occasional letter which is what I’ve had off the other isps its only when I get same letter in different envelopes from the same isp it just seems a joke so can feel your pain if getting the same number of letters as me.

All the letters I get end up in the recycling bin also.

To be honest I found this site some years ago I didn’t become a member but im sure this was the site i used when I selected my first broadband isp ive been on broadband since it’s been available in the town I used to live and my current connection is only the fourth isp Ive been with since going onto broadband well broadband / fibre as my current supplier is fibre.
In the future when I next change ISPs the chances are I will come back to this site and read reviews and also to check the listings and get a rough idea of the pricing from this site before changing and would never just take the first letter that comes through the post but I guess for every one person that does research isp first there is 10 that just take the offer that they see its just a shame that some of the bigger isps obviously advertise by bombarding potential customers with spam.

Years ago when most of us was on dialup (im pretty sure it was before broadband) I think AOL used to supply CDs through the post or free with magazines etc and me and a friend of mine found a good use for them we used to have a competition who could give the most amount of AOL cd to friend of ours without him noticing so if we borrowed a disc when it was returned it would have a AOL cd underneath the cd we borrowed.
AOLs advertising worked well also as not one of us ever went over to AOL. lol

Off topic, I had a good experience with OFCOM this week, I registered a complaint about silent calls on Wednesday and had a grovelling apology from the company involved on Thursday.

Of course only time will tell if they actually stop the silent calls !!!
