Unix/Linux a differance?

Its all running nicely on Virtual Machine and suse 9.1, all I have to do now is work out how to set up the internet connection on it!...I can see why windows is more popular, it didnt detect the bulk of my hardware inc soundcard, ISDN card and 9800 pro graphic card....think I better get a book on it

The virtual machine is seen by the host OS as a lowest common denominator PC - the host OS (in this case SUSE) can`t actually see things like what make of graphic card you have or your ISDN card; it just thinks it`s running on a PC with basic commodity hardware. If you want to make use of non-virtual hardware (assuming it is supported) you will have to do a real install. The simplest way to use the Internet is to set SUSE up to use DHCP for the virtual network adapter (you will need to have a DHCP server like a router for instance).

Something else that may surprise you is that there is no built-in way to transfer files between MS VPC2004 and Windows (for Linux at least) . What you will have to do is set up your virtual network adapter (automatic under DHCP) so that it`s on the same network as the host PC and then set up a FTP server or web server or SAMBA share (will appear in your Windows network directory) and transfer them that way. :)

P.S. I sometimes find that Fedora stops allowing keyboard input - if this happens just press control-C and everything goes back to normal. :)

Well I hope you remember my warning about the current dual boot problems and possible partition table corruption ...
