Updating the modem firmware of the ZTE MF286d

Sponsored Links
Seems to be not working for me - I get;
at+fotactr=0
+FOTACTR: 0,0

OK
at+fotactr=1
+FOTACTR: 1,0

OK
at+fotactr=5
+FOTACTR: 5,6432318

OK
at+fotactr=8
+FOTACTR: 8,0

OK
at+fotactr=2
+FOTACTR: 2,0

thru picocom - the modem reboots after about 10 seconds and once it reboots I tried

AT+FOTACTR=3
+FOTACTR: 3,1

and ATI still shows

Manufacturer: ZTE CORPORATION
Model: MF286DMODULE
Revision: BD_MF286DMODULEV1.0.0B07
SVN: 01
IMEI: 86XXXXXXXXXXX
+GCAP: +CGSM

and ATI still shows
This is what we've seen before. Normally you can try the next incremental file or reboot the modem one more time and re-check the version.
But in your case +FOTACTR: 3,1 tells that update failed.
That's weird because validation was OK - +FOTACTR: 1,0

Make sure the interface in OpenWrt is either deleted or disabled, the modem should be completely idle during the upgrade.

It is a fresh OpenWrt install without the interface defined. Should the sim card be removed also to ensure it is idle?

I think I upgraded mine without SIM card installed.
I tried again without the SIM card and a couple of reboots with the same result.

Do you think it is worth trying a different delta (say 08 up)?
It is no big deal if I brick it as I have a second to spare.

Or failing that - I have serial access so is there another approach I could take?

Updating with out-of-sequence delta should fail. I would try to find the framework that flashes the old modem firmware.

I've unfortunately not been able to find a framework that works (all but one say that there is an "invalid version specified" and the one that doesnt' say that fails after 2 minutes complaining about not being an ATAPI device).

I've put the update log I was able to extract from the modem on the off chance that someone might have an idea of an alternative approach.

Also in case it is relevant - the Framework tool always reports my version as as a three 08 (CR_H3GGBMF286DV1.0.0B08) router despite having flashed both OpenWrt and Nordic to it.
