I don't need a very fast service but just 128Kbit up and 512Kb down...

Do you know any provider more cheap ? About 50 GBP monthly fee (or less) ?

Hi

If you don't upload alot of data ie. sending large file attatchments, then it would be more cost effective to buy a one-way satellite internet system. If you have a telephone line then all you need is a TV type 60cm satellite dish aligned to 33 degrees east, and a satellite modem (49Euros) then we can give you an up to 1mbit download service from just 19.90Euro per month.

if you want to go for the 2way, We can also supply you discounted hardware , we sell complete ex demonstration 2way systems including dish monoblock LNB and 2way modem for just £550.00

And "Old Dude" you are wrong again:nod:, the basic 2way service will give you much better download/upload than dial up even after the 50MB daily volume allowance, and it will meet his need perfectly.

with the 1 way service do you need to have another isp for sending all data on th internet?
i am asking for a work colleague who can only get 256kb broadband at present and has asked me to find out other alternatives.
he lives in co. tyrone, northern ireland and as the original poster says he is in ireland i thought this is the best place to post.

I think Micronet will give you an unmetered dialup service to manage the upload as well but you could use any dialup provider’s package. However yes, you're correct, with a one-way service you do need one separate connection to manage the upload and then the satellite takes care of any downloads.

Just be aware that satellite performance can vary so a stable 256Kbps may in some case be better. If you can get an affordable 3G Mobile Broadband service from Vodafone, T-Mobile or Three then that might be a better bet but I don't know about N.I coverage.

In fact you can use the existing 256kadsl connection as the up link and
our system uses channel bundling technology to add part of the existing download speed on top of the satellite download speed, as long he does not download over 15-20GB per month he should find his speed always at least near to 1mb with our unlimited 1mbit package (after 15-20Gb the speed will reduce as part of the fair use policy) so its the ideal solution to speed up a slow DSL connection as long as he is not thinking of downloading huge amounts of data.

The system can be used to speed up the download speed of any slow DSL,Dial up, 3G/GPRS connection and support any kind uplink internet connection.

MLPPP Bonded ADSL?

Have you considered MLPPP Bonded ADSL as an alternative. Obviously there is an additional charge for the extra phone line(s) required, but you can basically add up the sync speed of each line and knock 10% off for the bonding overhead and that is your delivered speed. We have both customers with long lines and also those who won't pay for a leased line but want more upstream bandwidth or more than 8Mb/s downstream who use it, including one who has an eight line bond.

Bear in mind the end point router (unless you fancy playing with a Linux box, which we will assist with too) will be more pricey than consumer routers but 2 and 4 line bonds are not too painful. Take a look / give us a shout etc. if you are interested. I suspect it will be cheaper than satellite in any case!
