USB stick MP3 music library storage on Three NR5103E

Has anyone managed to get this to work (plan to use with Sonos)? Manual says it should do but some reports say otherwise...

I haven't. Gave up. Generic Zyxel firmware documentation refers to it but I found no GUI option in THREE version (screen there but not all options).

Just plugged one of my PC external drives in to see if anything changed in the USB section of the web UI.

It does change from zero bytes to show the total file size, but not sure how I would access the files externally

The drive is recognised just fine though.

I used to use the usb file sharing for 4K demo videos on my talk talk fibre router, that was many years ago and I forget all the ins and outs of it now Meatball.

You can add new accounts / users, whether that's whats required or not I'm not sure.

Most likely SMB/CIFS. The router could be nmap-ed to see what ports open when that service starts.

I'll leave it for someone who actually knows what they're doing mikeliuk. 😊

Going by information from Sonos, you have to tell it to look for files at the router IP address -- for example \\192.168.1.254\music

The question is whether this actually works on the Three NR5103 -- any yes/no from someone who has actually tried it (preferably with Sonos) would be helpful... :)

@The Wee Bear just install Fing on an Android and run the port scanner against the Zyxel.
OK tried that meritez thanks, can see plenty devices but not spotting the hard drive listed anywhere. ☹️

There are 21 devices listed, unplugging the drive and refreshing the list it remains at 21 so I'm guessing the usb port isn't active on the network?

Installed this Fing thing to see what it's about, so don't scan the whole network, your drive will not appear there.
You want to see if the "file sharing" service is available.

Go to "Tools - Find open ports" and scan the IP of the Zyxel router.
You should see a list like "domain, http", see if you can find also anything like "cifs, smb, windows share".

If not, then try to mess with the settings, perhaps you need to enable something there.

OK cheers Lucian, will give that a go and see if it shows up anything different. (y)

That's what I get listed, the microsoft entry lists 'connect with samba client' when opened points to an android SAMBA app in the play store.

A bit confusing.

Ok, that's good, the service is running.
Now open up Windows File Explorer and go to \\192.168.what.ever (replace with actual Zyxel IP, but keep the \\), it should show you the file shares.

Done that, it asks for the router username and password then come up with a usb share icon, clicking that it does indeed show all the files on the drive.
