Using BT Speedtester domain

Hi,

Since upgrading to ADSL-MAX with Freedon2surf (http://www.freedom2surf.net) I've been having intermittent problems logging in.
( fault logged with f2s but no useful suggestions from them so far )

The modem is showing ADSL Sync ok, but when I try to connect I get a variety of errors - invalid username and password, remote computer not responding, etc, etc. I know the username and password are correct ! - If I just keep hitting redial it will (eventually) connect.

So, I as an experiment I've tried repeated connections with the BT speedtester account ( speedtest@speedtest_domain ) :

1. Dial
2. visit speedtester.bt.com
3. disconnect
4. wait 60 seconds
5 repeat...

( Speedtouch USB modem connected to XF-1e microfilter connected to BT Master socket. No phones connected )

Using the speedtester account, from 20 attempts it logged in every time, instantly, with a consistent speed of 3.5Mbs.
Using my f2s account it connected 5 times. 13 "invalid username" errors and "remote computer not responding" errors. All took 20+sec to return.

Is the fact that the BT account will login happily any indication of a f2s problem ?

Any suggestions what to try next ?

Thanks,

Tim.

USB modems are not recomended for adsl max . Because the connection is not always up with a USB modem it's harder for BT to stabilise the rate. I would have thought F2S would have advised you of this though:rolleyes:

Does sound like a F2S issue if you have no problems connecting using the speedtester domain login details. Hope you've got an hour or so to spare because it can take ages trying to get through to F2S tech support. These guys were on my list of possible new isp's when I escaped from Netservices - but their reputation for poor tech support and long queues on the phones put me off.

Reasonable point :) but I'm not convinced it is an MSR related issue. Firstly, the PC is on 99% of the time ( it's main task is a PVR ) so I think it would have "trained" correctly, and secondy, the connection to bt's speedtest is faultless - always connects, never drops.

I was really interested to hear peoples views on the speedtest account. Is it a on a par with a "real" login, and therefor a good indicator of the level of service I could / should expect from an ISP, or does it bypass something in some way that just makes it appear good ?

Thanks,

Tim.
