using other ISP's on ASDL

yep

I have just got AOL broadband. Before that I was on ISDN and thus could use other isp's to log on and pick up e mail and upload wed data. Now that I am on an ASDL modem, will I have to resurrect my dial up modem to reach the other ISP'sto send e mail and reach their upload areas?

Or is there a way using AOL and the ASDL modem?

Many thanks in anticipation.

If they dont support relay to their smtp servers then yes you will either have to dialup to their service or change the outgoing mailserver to smtp.aol.com <- think thats correct, check it at KEYWORD: SMTP, you will then need to get your mail software to use your AOL Username and Password when sending email.

In terms of ftp access or webspace access with other ISP's its really down to them. Take the oppertunity to bag yourself a cheap .co.uk domian and dump the other ISP mail accounts you use. Your line is effectivly linked to AOL so its the only broadband service you can use unless you migrate (which you cna't do with AOL for 12 months)

Hope that helps

Ben
