Using T-Mobile minutes to access ISP

Hi I am new here as you can see.

I have to use a laptop for email (with limited web browsing) via my cellphone.

But T-Mobile charges for using 'freefone' numbers and 0845 numbers. So using my AOL account or any of the 'free' ISP's still costs me 10p a minute.

So does anyone know of a low cost ISP for dialup which will not ring alarm bells with T-Mobile and allow me to use my minutes in my T-Mobile account package ?

Many thanks

mish

Demon used to have an Orange friendly number, not sure whether they have a T-Mobile one.

BTYahoo have a couple of numbers that are meant to be used from abroad but they do work in the UK
From their help section

BT Yahoo! from abroad
International (PSTN): +44 121 478 9200
International (ISDN): +44 121 478 9300
Please note: Caller Line Identity (CLI) is required.

Apparently Orange PAYG do a £1 "Extra" offering unlimited GPRS browsing from time of purchase to midnight, called "Orange World Access Daily".

I think there's a limit to how many extras you can have in a month, there may well be other catches too

Orange World Access Daily

1. Orange World Access Daily provides up to one day's unlimited browsing for £1.

2. Orange World Access Daily can only be used in the UK. Any GPRS or CSD use outside of the UK will be charged at the relevant current international rates.

3. Orange World Access Daily is not available on 3G phones.

4. The Orange Extras terms and conditions also apply. These should be viewed at www.orange.co.uk or a copy is available from your local Orange shop.

OK, thanks.

The BT Yahoo is interesting.

The point is that if at all possible I don't want to change my provider - anyway we are all locked into contracts with them aren't we?

So I just want an ISP that has a very normal landline number that T-Mobile will not reject, or not charge a premium on - like 0845 numbers - and recognise as a number that can be used with the 'package' of minutes I buy.

Is that any more clear folks ?

It may be worth checking if there are any conditions relating to the free minutes with T-mobile, for example if they only apply to voice calls rather than data calls.

An example of this is the BTYahoo number I mentioned earlier. If you try to use this number to access the internet on your home phone with any of the BT Option packages (the ones with free calls/minutes), you will still get charged the normal per minute rate as BT exclude this number (and other non voice numbers) from their free calls packages.

Just don't want you to get stung with an unexpected high bill as I did once !!

Thanks,

With T-Mobile they vet all numbers that you call and although they have packages that allow calls to other mobile networks etc., they charge for all freefone numbers - like my AOL - and all 0845 numbers. So free minutes are only to legitimate personal/business numbers. So calling a 'normal' landline number is the only way I can use the free minutes.

T-Mobile do have a 'data package' but that is only to be used in certain locations where there is a data loop or something. Like in motorway filling stations and other prominent premises. My problem is that a lot of my time is spent on my boat, so I don't exactly tie-up to the nearest T-Mobile node out in the sticks.

All suggestions welcome though folks !

Cheers

Best thing I can suggest is to just try the BT number for say, 5 minutes, and see if you get charged for it on your bill.
