Utterly terrible Vodafone broadband...

Hey

I have been with Vodafone mobile broadband for just over a month, and the technology, speeds and service are terrible beyond belief.

Promised "up to" 7 mbps, and told I was in a "strong reception area", I find after getting the thing that I actually get 0.5mbps (and that's when I can actually log on), and the customer service has suddenly plummeted.

Now over a month has past I am told I am actually in a black spot and "shouldn't expect any more than what I get."

The customer services are beyond unhelpful, and I can't pay £15 a month for a service I can't actually use half the time.

Edit - it crashes my PC at least 4 times a day too. For laughs, y'know. Great. Messaged the Vodafone help boards, and rang them too, absolutely no joy let a lone a reply.

What can I do?

Thanks in advance

Joe

Firstly, welcome to the "wonderful" world of Mobile Broadband. What you have experienced with speed is actually quite normal and we've covered this a lot on ISPreview over the past two years, check out our own experiences with Vodafone:

Please also review their Mobile Broadband service here as we need more feedback:

What you have experienced is generally the reason why I think it's always a good idea to use the PAYG (pay as you go) services first so as not to risk picking a bad operator. But even if you get perfect reception then the service can still be slow and unstable for all sorts of reasons, Mobile Broadband is by no means a replacement for land line services.. yet.

As for the crashes, well that is always a lot more complicated but I would imagine it stems from their Vodafone Connection Manager software. I doubt Vodafone will be able to help you here because the reasons computers crash are many and varied. My Vodafone install has never crashed but that doesn't exactly help you.
