VDSL router recommendations

I've always used combi modem/routers in the past, but I'm thinking that I might go for a WIFI6 router this time, even though I won't get full benefit yet.

I've not been able find any combi's that support WIFI6, so just wondering what modems people might recommend to put in front of a separate router if I do decide to go that way?

Thanks

Kevin.

Just throwing it out there but you can get VDSL modem-only boxes. Like the Huawei HG612. You can pick them up on ebay for around £10 then you can use whatever router/wifi box you want. But they're not a firewall either so whatever you put behind it should be a firewall too.

There are also others like DrayTek Vigor 130 ADSL2+/VDSL Modem and I hear good things about the Fritzbox modem/routers too. This page shows a comparison of models

Edit: Who is your ISP by the way, as some of them (e.g. Sky) require special DHCP option (option 67) and they don't all support that. Apparently the DrayTek Vigor 2862 routers do and the DrayTek Vigor 130 modem.

Thanks Dabigm.
Once bitten, twice shy, so I'd prefer to buy a new device rather than going to ebay. I was just wondering if there are any particular recommendations for a VDSL model to put in front of a WIFI6 router. The routers I'm considering all have SPI Firewall.

If you are buying your WIFI6 box and that is a router and not just an AP then I reckon you'll be good with just a modem, go for the DrayTek Vigor 130 they look like they're about £85-90 ish including the postage. Available on scan/amazon etc. I guess Amazon have easy returns if you can't get it to work. Let us know how it goes!

I'd wait a little bit longer. WiFi 6 is still fairly new in the commercial space and WiFi 6E is only just around the corner. At present early v6 kit tends to be a bit over-priced, but that will change as the chipset production grows and then you'll see a much wider choice of more affordable kit, probably by the end of 2021.

Thanks MarkJ, I'm already having issues with my current router and doubt I can wait that long. I think I will probably settle for a cheaper wifi5 solution now view a view to upgrading sometime later.
As stated earlier, I wouldn't get full benefit of wifi6 yet, and was only thinking about it in terms of future-proofing.

I recently bought a used TP Link one off eBay for £5. Proves how little people want these.
