Virgin Media XGS PON FTTP Install 2024 (video)

Going by the size of the box that VM have installed in the chamber it looks like PIA is going to have to start having charging bands based on how large your kit is. Having a chamber completely taken over by two PIA customers who just throw all the Openreach kit into the bottom of it cannot be sustainable against lobbying efforts by BT if they choose to go down that path.

Having just had this installed, I can confirm this is the process used for their XGS-PON services, only difference with ours is it is from a pole rather than underground and our CBTs look different being ones from Upp Broadband. There has been issues in this area with addressing on the fibre network with certain parts of Sheringham being ok and others not. It seems my road is the only one functional at present. Hopefully they get this sorted rather soon. I can also confirm there is no modem mode on hub5x but I have found it to be so far a decent product with much better coverage than my old EE Smart Hub. Has a handy app to manage a lot of the settings and the web interface is easy to navigate for any features not in the app. See below for a speedtest on the M350 plan with Upload Speed Add on vs my previous connection.

Here is my hands on review video:
Virgin Media Gig1 XGS PON FTTP Broadband Review 2024
Very nice video and very detailed blog, really nice. I saw on there that you also got rid successfully of the Hub, does the module you have show you info on the OLT side like vendor, model etc? Just curious to know, if VM actually shows that as it can be hidden from ONTs.
