I believe some further details of the Virgin Mobile migration to O2 Plans will have gone out now so thought this poll could be interesting, assuming sufficient Virgin Mobile customers.

Don't really want to jinx things and the real test is whether the O2 Plan prices will be honoured in later years.

Once switched over, what extra benefits will I get as an O2 customer?

When you’re with O2, you’ll have access to new benefits, while keeping some of the Virgin Mobile ones:
To start with you’ll get either double the data or unlimited data for the same price.
You’ll continue to be able to roam freely across Europe – up to 25GB, plus four extra countries making up 47 in total.
You’ll get Visual Voicemail which allows you to listen, save, share and delete voicemails using a visual interface on your phone, rather than calling voicemail.
You’ll also gain access to Priority from O2, with offers from high street brands, tickets, experiences and daily treats.
Your network coverage will be the same, as all Virgin Mobile customers are already using the O2 network which was recently awarded ‘Best Network for Roaming’ and ‘Most Popular Mobile Network’ at the Uswitch Awards.
Plus we'll always treat you fairly, with access to the same deals as new customers.
Think I've found a gotcha that could bite and force a move if it falls off:

I’ve checked My O2 and my monthly airtime price looks higher than what I used to pay on my Virgin Mobile plan – why is this?

Don’t worry, you won’t pay extra for your monthly airtime on an O2 plan – we’ve made sure your price stayed the same when you moved over from Virgin Mobile.

To keep your price the same, we added a monthly Airtime Discount Bolt On to your account. The price you’re seeing in the tariff section of My O2 is before the monthly discount is applied – that’s why it looks higher than your previous Virgin Mobile bill.

You can view your Bolt Ons in My O2 to see your monthly airtime discount and any other discounts you may have. Or click on your bill to see a full breakdown of your tariff and any applicable discounts. Your bill will only be available 24 hours after you’ve moved over to O2.

Received below text today and feels like a non-agreed price increase is on the way as the Bolt-On discount no longer shows.
Hello. We're getting in touch to let you know that you're currently out of your minimum contract term and your monthly Airtime Plan is £18.77*, this excludes any current discounts you may have.
You can choose to stay on the same tariff, move to another tariff or switch to another provider.
For more information and some tariffs to consider: http://v.o2.co.uk/<snip>
*+RPI + 3.9%. Terms apply.

I'm still on the £16/m (ish) unlimited data sim that was the upgrade for VM's equivalent priced one. Very happy with O2 so far, especially EU roaming.
Haven't received any correspondence from them, although I had the price increased slightly.. as you do.

I had that text too, your price is not increasing, that's just the price without the discount bolton

"Hello. We're getting in touch to let you know that you're currently out of your minimum contract term and your monthly Airtime Plan is £14.45*, this excludes any current discounts you may have.

I got this text after which meant I'm still at the usual £7.37 for unlimited data. The text above does state that it excluded any discounts you may have but you made the same mistake as me ignoring it. I think we're getting the text since we've been with O2 for a year, I was migrated on 14/05/2023.

"Hello [redacted], Your bill for account [redacted] is £7.37 this month. To view it, just go to www.o2.co.uk/myo2/viewbill. Turn off your wifi and you won't need a username or password. We'll take payment on 29/05/2024. Thanks."

Just tested min, from SW London, first time it went over 100 Mbits, but upload is very poor. When we ever get full speed 5G...

Are you using a Virgin SIM still? Get your SIM swapped and you should be fine (I'm able to access 5G NSA perfectly fine and I swapped SIMs in November).

Still using the original VM SIM, but from 1-6-2024 I will be getting my new contract starting. Will that make a difference? Phone is a Samsung S23 plus.
So, if I ring up O2, ask for a SIM swap, I will actually get 5G?
Will I get an instant recognition of O2 as I need access to my phone 24/7 since I work for the NHS.

If you can get to an O2 store, I'd recommend doing the SIM swap there.

I phoned O2 to do a SIM swap and despite saying I wouldn't lose service they promptly cut the existing SIM off before the new one arrived.

In theory it should go smoothly over the phone but it very much depends which country deals with your request and if they get it right.

You should hopefully, I don't know whether my SIM had access to 5G before I swapped as I wasn't using a 5G device at the time (it was a SIM originally designed to connect to the EE network though) but I definitely have access to n78 in my Vodafone host area.

We swapped both our SIMs via Facebook Messenger and we weren't cut off for a period of time. All we had to do when they arrived was to text a number to do the swap which happened within a minute. Came through quickly too but I would advise to go into your local store with photo ID to get it swapped for the fastest experience.

Went to a shop, got a SIM swap and within 10 minutes got my working phone back. But sadly, 5G speeds are still very poor.
In many parts of the country, O2 definitely isn’t the right network if you’re looking for the best speeds. The widespread congestion issues make them the slowest network on average by far.

Three have the fastest 5G network and EE have the fastest overall network when considering both 4G and 5G together across the UK.

It might be time to switch providers, the best I've gotten from O2 5G is ~200mbps but I'm in Vodafone host.

Check out 5G coverage on bidb and see what the best provider is going to be, could be Vodafone considering 5G Ultra is widespread.

Are there any quick fixes to try for slow upload speeds on O2 ?

I am on 4G and am about 500 yards from the mast with a clear line of sight. Over a period of six weeks, I have always been recording download speeds of 80-odd Mbps but upload speeds of between 0.3 and 0.4 Mbps.

The download speed is very acceptable and gives me everything that I want. But the upload causes me problems.

Suggestions please ?

Not really, apart from a better transmitter, given your phone itself is usually a bad transmitter.

Make sure your phone is up to date.,
if you haven't you can try a device restart as well.
Also potentially worthwhile trying out a different speedtest app, and see if the results are the same as the one you've been using.

It's also important to remember that 4G uploads, typically are not able to be aggregated whereas downloads can be, and hence why there's such a huge disparity with uploads over downloads.

It could also be a problem with the local mast, if O2's status checker says everything is fine then it could be down to something else.

Thanks @Pixelpetal
1. handset is top of the range, up to date and three months' old.
2. have tried numerous restarts.
3. tried various speedtest apps with similar results.
4. mast is OK.
Any other suggestions please ?
