virgin problems

hi, today we are having big problems with the virgin 2mb service and have disconnected the modems twice.

i have just done a speed test and it is 0.75mbs and 0.1 upload.

we have had this problem recently and i think i called before christmas to say we had problems but they said we didnt.

does anyone know what is going on.

i am thinking of switching and wondered if this is a good idea. we are very close to a BT station (400m away as the crow flies, maybe nearer.

any ideas on where is the best place to go to?

ok, s o2 are the ones to go with. we have an inactive bt line. will we need to sign up to bt first or can we just go direct to o2

As far as I know, you'd have to go direct to BT first, get the line activated, then add broadband.

if you specifically want a bundle which includes both phone line and broadband then I'm sure some of the other members here can help - it's just not something I know much about.

Might also be worth considering Sky Broadband if you previously had a TV package with Virgin Media too. That way you can get a nice bundle and they can also arrange for the new line installation. Mind you it's only worth picking Sky if you're covered by their unbundled network (Mid or MAX packages).

Pop your phone number in here and look under the LLU suppliers report it returns (Sky is Easynet I believe):

Otherwise stick with O2.

Virgin is dreadful. Avoid

I was told I'd get 5 mb and was getting as low as 0.1mb, 0.2mb is usual though I only live 1/4 mile from exchange. Their web-site say now that they've carried out a test and I'm able to get 6mb.

This coupled with their useless e-mail account left me wanting out (e-mails drop off after about 20 in the inbox and constant spam and ultra useless filters, ie: any spam with a keyword such as 'Rolex' is sent to a 'spam' folder which needs to be deleted to the trash folder. You then go to the trash folder and again delete it to get rid of it!).

Virgin state I have a contract which extended when I moved home so I have to pay.

That'll teach you for going with a mainstream ISP and not reading reviews before you buy (we've all been there).

I know someone who is with Virgin (ADSL) and gets 1.2Mb when he should get 6.5Mb or more and is within a mile of the exchange.

I am just over 3 miles from the exchange and get just under 3Mb, can push it to 4Mb but line is just too unstable and will crash after a day or two.

Wouldn't bother complaining, just move, get TitanADSL, there are always top of the leader board.
