Virgin pushing 360 box.

I wonder if any other members who use Virgin Media services have had an email trying to cajole them to convert their V6 box into Virgin TV 360 box, the inducement appearing to be they can then enjoy added Sky sporting content.
The downside is you then lose all the stuff you've recorded on your V6 box, programmes you may well have wanted to keep.
I've read a few posts on Virgin's own forum where some customers have converted unaware of this loss, and have been left very unhappy as a result.
Even ignoring this, I've seen a few posts on the Virgin forum where opinions on the 360 box have not been wholly positive.
At the present time I have no intention of switching, despite Virgin's "charm" offensive.

I switched during the trial. I don't really record anything now what with streaming. I found the UI to be much nicer than TiVo.

I think if your using the TiVo functionality a lot, you maybe find it a downgrade. If your not recording much or anything you might find it an upgrade

It’s a great box.

I love my 360 and that is coming from Sky Q.

Must get confusing within parts of VM02, trying to manage customer migrations to two entirely seperate platforms each called 360.

I have a Virgin Media Stream which is based on the V360, honestly while I only have it on my 2nd TV i think the interface is really good and works really well with the VM Go app.

As a previous TiVo user, I prefer the layout of the 360

I'll agree with this in terms of the layout alone.

BUT, I prefer the peanut remote from TiVo and also the recording abilities of that software too. 360 Is weird with what it does and doesn't choose to record and there's not a great deal of customisation to this. With the old software you had far more control over that.

Also I am curious - Does Stream finally let you switch the box out of standby and go straight to a live channel? Or does it still dump you at the home page and make you go through the guide to pick your first channel before you can start clicking through them? I tried them out in the very early days and this behaviour annoyed me more than it probably should have.

Thanks for reply, but can you please explain what a "peanut" remote is?
Also I'm a bit confused by this....

Is it right to assume that a V6 (is that Tivo?) is more user friendly than a 360?
Are there things I can do with a 360 that I can't do with a V6?
Thank you.

AFAIK - Normally it puts you on the home screen with the last channel in a small preview in the corner.

It annoys me that i can only have 1 box, I currently have one my 2nd TV, but if i could have 2 boxes I'd be more likely to subscribe to the entertainment pack... something hopefully for the future.

TiVo based boxes come with a remote control that's in the shape of a peanut. I've always found them nice to hold and liked the layout for the most part. The 360 Remote isn't as nice in my opinion. The only thing that I do like is that the keys light up in the dark when you pick it up.

If you 'upgrade' your V6 Box from TiVo to the 360 Software you will be sent a new remote control that you must use.

The 360 Software is more user friendly in a way. The software is clean and very basic. TiVo is more complex but with that comes a bit more control over things like recordings and personalised recommendations. 360 Also tends to run the newer apps like ITVX a bit faster than the old TiVo platform does.

With recordings though, The 360 Platform will sometimes just decide it doesn't want to record a show you have saved with a series link. But then if you try to record it you'll get an error saying you can't because it's already covered by said series link. Meanwhile it will happily record repeat shows you've already seen... Compare this to TiVo where it won't record repeat shows, lets you pick only specific series numbers to record if you wish, and lets you add padding to your recordings in case you're watching live content that runs later than expected.

(Yes, 360 Claims to have 'advanced' recording settings to offer SOME of these features that TiVo used to have. No, they basically never work)

Many thanks for reply.
I suppose because I'm used to the system, I find V6 operation pretty straightforward, and from what you've told me, I think I'll be sticking with V6 while I'm able.
I've read also that 360 offers the option of watching Disney Channel and Paramount. However, I have an Amazon 4K Firestick, so my access to these channels and others is already adequately served.
