Virgin woes

Hi

I seem to be having a miserable experience with VM. Today, and not the first time either as of late. it's sort of working and sort of not working. Pages load slowly, images sometimes never load and on big sites like bbc news or google. I'm paying for 350mbit , and fast.com shows me getting 190 right now. Yes that's fine, I can live happily on that even though i pay for much more, but what I can't deal with is the never ending circle of doom in windows while a page loads, freezing up my browsers, and the images not loading etc.

Then i've also been offline about 3 times in the last couple of months, due to what i'm not sure because Virgin won't tell us why these problems occur. My personal view is they are doing experiments / updates etc without telling (I'm on a business contract too, and all maintenance is supposed to be notified 24hrs before unless an emergency).

So of course I called VM, and I'm sure you can imagine what they told me when I told them I have a Ubiquiti edgerouter as my router (and of course the Hitron modem which is in modem only mode), well if you didn't guess obviously the Ubiquiti edgerouter is at fault, and everything also needs rebooting 10 times while standing on one leg, rubbing your tummy and repeating the lord's prayer. Call them again, tell them I've got my modem hooked up DIRECTLY with a cable to my macbook, and they tell me I must have "bad wifi" in my house. sigh. Using a cable?

MTR tells me packets are being dropped , but well that might be true or it might not, so I guess i'll never know what the real fault is but i'm getting super tired of VM being broken a lot now but yet on this site, at least when articles about VM come out they get religiously defended, why? They seem quite poor to me. I guess when it works it's fine but when it doesn't it's a nightmare and it seems to be breaking a lot lately. My vodafone connection (DSL) isn't this bad, it's gone off once in a year, VM has gone off 3 times in 2 months and had problems like today for weeks.

Is anyone else having a bad VM day today?

Hope this makes you feel better..:ROFLMAO:

I had this when I first joined VM - while my actual speeds were somewhat fine, loading up something like Twitter would turn to mush as soon as it starts doing API calls for all the content.
Apparently it was due to signal strength - mine was too high, causing massive packet loss as there was too much noise. If you give VM a call and get them to send out a engineer they should be able to sort out an engineer, although I've been hearing that it is a last resort for them right now. My experience with this was painless, but I have heard a lot of reports to the contrary.

It also could be your SuperHub 3. Its a piece of crap and I really don't understand how mine even functions. You can try messing with the settings (I fully recommend turning OFF the automatic switching between 2.4 & 5Ghz - just make two networks and do it yourself) - and if that, and the engineer visit doesn't fix anything, I would try another router.
