Virgin XGS pon performance

Gig2 with symmetric upgrade:

https://www.speedtest.net/result/16242959547 via mikrotik CCR2004-1G-12S+2XS, using mikrotik S+RJ10 module, a 50cm cat6a patch cable, PC connected via 25GbE single mode fibre.

Note that this exact same config maxes out the 500mbit upload of my other connection (gigaclear 500/500).

https://www.speedtest.net/result/16242971142 Direct connection via laptop with 2.5GbE to hub5x.

Hub5x lets you enable modem mode if you browse to http://192.168.0.1/?page=modemmode , but then you can't obtain an IP. Resetting hub5x is only way to get online again.

I can get the PON up on the XGSPON SFP+ module, but can't obtain an IP.

With these speeds, and lack of modem mode or working XGSPON SFP+, I'm probably going to scrap the vermin connection under the 14d cooling off period.
I know this is old, but I would. It seems Virgin Media can't seem to do anything right

my net dropped the other night and my ping has now tripled >.< (for my whole area)

Has your second hop changed?
Can't find anywhere that've I've shared a 1.1.1.1 trace route, only bbc!
Before 13/06/2024
Code:
Tracing route to bbc.co.uk [151.101.64.81]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

I did another check on 14/06/2024 because I think ping was up too and that has a similar extra hop
Code:
racing route to bbc.co.uk [151.101.0.81]

even my ping on virgins realspeed test has gone from 4's to 20's now >.<

live today on 1GB XGS, east mids, seem to be routing via Northampton which makes sense, thats around 30 miles south of me.

ping is less stable than my sky FTTC (which pinged solid 8ms), presumably the openreach backhaul is more stable than vm.

my friend in Scarborough (village close to) also had his pings double recently on XGS VM, thought you may find that somewhat interesting.

no i don't think he is that bothered to complain, i just remember reading your posts and asked him to check his (i had previously asked him for his pings/tracert when he got the connection)

Complain about what?

A swift, polite "go away" is what is coming back.

Sort of glad to see I'm not the only one having higher latency. I really miss Upp to be honest. Wish they were never bought out by VM. Was just playing Fortnite and saw it keep spiking up to 120 ping. I got about 2-5 ping on Fortnite when Upp was still around

i have noticed in the evenings my routing changes, daytime it goes to Slough as the last hop, typically 6-10ms to bbc then in the evening (after 10pm) it goes to London directly and pings are 3-6ms. Does seem weird how unstable the pings are, on my FTTC 99/100 pings would be 8ms, on VM every ping is different give or take 3ms.

Interesting, I also don't see it going through Slough now it's after 10pm. Are you also an ex Upp customer?

Is anyone on XGS in an infill area?

I'm on RFoG but around the corner they are doing infill on our 2019 rollout using XGS. I'm wondering if this means that when XGS goes live, there could be the option to migrate over from RFoG.

The answer to this is no. Or at least not now it seems.
