Virtual Mobile Number

What are some reputable providers of UK Virtual Mobile Numbers please? I did a quick Google search and got tonnes of results, mostly from companies I have never heard of.

The requirement is to have a virtual UK mobile number (which is not linked to a sim or esim) that can be used for sending and receiving texts. Should work in a mobile app (+desktop/browser app would be a plus).

Budget <=£10 pcm (or thereabouts). Don't need loads of bundled minutes or anything like that. The idea is to use that number for WhatsApp Business.

Thank you!

Crazy idea but what about Google Voice? Paid Google Workspace accounts can access it apparently, might be best checking it out. You would get a ton of other perks with that too.

Also, I will warn you that some VoIP numbers are blocked by WhatsApp, I have a US one provided by Talkatone for free (well all it requires is an 89p top-up) which works fine with WhatsApp Business now but I was struggling to get it registered initially (I used the multiple accounts creation feature on the regular WhatsApp app to register it since it wasn't working on a dual app).

I had a look but the free service is not available in the UK. I'll check what the lowest paid tier costs.

Ah I didn't know that. Will try and see what happens!

Looks like the "individual plan" of Workspace that includes Voice is £7.99 a month and I think there is no minimum commitment. That's not too bad. You get everything else too including the 1 TB storage.

Although, I'm not sure if Voice can give me a mobile number (instead of a geographical number). Would you happen to know?

I think it might be geographical, you can send texts to geographical ones from a mobile number iirc

It just sounds like a good idea, especially with the cloud storage.

Google Voice looks to be a chargeable addon to Workspace. Ive just been looking through my admin console and you have to assign licenses to users. I dont see the GBP pricing but the US guide is here. Sorry tried to provide a link to the pricing but you need to be signed in.

It's kind of awkward to find it.

You have to scroll right to the bottom to find the link to "Get Google Workspace with Voice" which is: https://workspace.google.com/business/signup/welcome?hl=en&source=gafb-pricing-voice-en

And you then go through the sign up process and the price is revealed much later. Bit annoying. I think the product in question is: Google Workspace Individual Plan

I did have a look at AA but was a bit confused by the offering. It says:
  • 07 Mobile numbers with eSIM, issued immediately.
But that's not what I'm looking for. I'll see if I can chat/speak with them and find out more.

You don't need a physical SIM or eSIM, you can purchase a stand alone 07 number and use it with a VoIP phone or Soft Phone.

SMS over VoIP has always been ‘clunky’. You can however, with Andrews & Arnold, obtain an SIM/eSIM and use the number as a ‘normal’ mobile number at anytime, for as long or as short as necessary thanks to their SIP2SIM offerings.

You can also create your own scripts by using an API to send SMS messages.

Not a huge deal for me but this is for someone who works in the business side so ease of use is paramount. They have a budget (not a huge one admittedly) so I'm leaning toward the Google service currently.
