VN007+ Help

Hi folks,

Hope you’re all well!

I need your help to stop me ending up in the doghouse! I managed to persuade my fella that we need to leave VM and move to 3 for our home broadband…
So our VN007+ turned up the other day, and I popped an unlimited 3 sim into it. I’ve put the router near to where my fella picks up 5g and gets between 100-200mbps on his iPhone 13 from a mast not far from us but behind trees. The VN007+ is getting about 10-30mbps max….! I’ve attached a screenshot from the admin page… can anyone suggest anything to help!? I’ve tried 3internet and three.co.uk APN’s.
Cheers, Dan.

The router radio seems to register pretty good signal. How are you testing?

Got some great signal stats there other than the B1 SINR - really poor that. You don't really want to use B1 anyway as Three's B1 offering's on 4G a meagre at best anyway.

Take a look at the below and pick the best B3 cell from that tower and input the RFCN and PCI into the local cell locking menu in the device and see what difference that makes.

Connected using its inbuilt wifi (5Ghz) at the moment before VM goes and it gets put into my UniFi network… Using the Speedtest app on my iPhone XR for the Speedtest.

Thanks bud. I know they upgraded a local 4G mast near us within the past 6 months with a GPS antenna but not actually sure which one it’s connected to for the 4G uplink.

I have found the WiFi on the VN007 to be less than amazing. I even used a USB-C ethernet adaptor to speed test it when I did the review as I got much better speeds over the ethernet.

At per above, try to test using a cable and laptop.

Hey dazmatic, to get to that menu do I need to active the root / super user? I’m back home now and I when I look for advanced settings it’s not there. Cheers :)

Which vn007+ firmware are you currently running?

Possibly, I only log in now with the superadmin account.

1.12.8 according to the admin portal.
That's newer than anything listed here:

or here:

Oh found it:

X21G_1.13.0_IDU_1.10.0._usr_update.bin < is available

New fw looks ok. Can't say I notice a lot of difference but stable for a few hours now.

Hi, I think I have a VN007+ and would like to flash it with either Matt Faraday's or other software. However I am not sure - it was bought as a ZLT X21. Can someone look at my screen shots of the router pages and advice please?

I found Matt's GIT pages and followed the instructions there to setup the password for the 'superadmin' account, and am now using that on the router - so it seems likely my ZLT X21 is a VN007+ but I would appreciate someone else's advice...

Also, does anyone know Matt's email address? I can't find it on his GIT pages...

Cheers!

@radiomean it's definitely a vn007+ though it is running a firmware earlier than most of us have seen.

I also own a ZLT x21.

I don't think @dabigm hands out their email address though they will probably see this message.

@Roguee am I reading those screenshots correctly, @radiomean has prerelease debug firmware on their unit.

Udx 710 modem that is what they call unisoc based routers . I suggest he flashes it- if it bricks you buy him a new one with your Halloween money .

Hello @radiomean

Matt = me.

But I didn't write any of the firmware etc, I just downloaded it and added it to a git repository. I'm actually thinking of archiving the firmware I have now and making it a git submodule of the other git repos with firmware which get updated regularly.

Anyhoo, anything you need to tell me you can do so on here. I try my best but I have kinda limited time (two jobs, two kids) but I try to answer everyone who @'s me.

To answer your question: it looks like a VN007+ because the firmware says X21G. If you want to be 100% certain, you'd have to crack it open and look at the PCB antenna config (it's different on a VN007 to a VN007+) the physical appearance from the outside won't tell you. Well, unless it happens to be written on the sticker underneath :)
