Ahhh the dreaded time of the year.I feel your pain
Vw serviced me well 2 moths ago . Almost 500 quid but at least the vaseline was provided by the moustached mechanic

god don't. Timing belt, water pump, £500 please. I love owning a German emissions cheating VW. :ROFLMAO:

Vw group Never again id rather ride my vn007+ to work lol
Oh man lets see i've had a knackered golf GTI MK2, a Polo 6N and now a Passat B7. Never again. The problems with the Passat and VWs handling of the case and their lies about the fix put me off for good. (The lie was, the fix will not change performance or fuel economy. It did). Plus VW compensated US owners. They allowed them to sell the car and would return any losses. UK? nah VW doesn't need to compensate us for lying about the performance of the vehicle.

Done with VW.

I might get told off for this but : I was happier with Ford and Toyota .my misery was the customer service vw group offer ( skoda in my case but same crap)

I'm so glad to have a car that doesn't have a timing belt.

I'm more worried about IGBTs instead!

Japanese are great but they're not built for this climate and will crumble away

My 15yo car wants a word with you. :)
That said, it's possible locally made Japanese cars aren't as well built as the ones from Japan.

It's possible. My parents have had many older Japanese cars, Mitsubishi/Suzuki etc and in our climate on our roads they just rot. They're looking at buying a low mileage 07 L200 that's been stood for 2 years on a dry slab and most of the MOT failures yesterday were corrosion related.

Is that Mitsubishi you're taking about?
But yeah, rust will eventually get through everything, especially if stood still, I'd say.
Btw Mitsubishi have left the UK market and even on the continent the few new models are made by Renault (don't ask me in which rabbit hole I learned this).

Hello @dabigm! Many thanks for 'contacting' me - much appreciated!
Your instructions to enable the 'superadmin' account were really useful and revealed lots of interesting and useful features, like band, cell and provider lock...

Re opening the case, when I first got my X21 I pulled it to pieces, removed the internal cellular antennas and fitted 7 SMA sockets on the outside of the case so I could use external antennas. So I'm happy to look inside.

Re the updated firmware, can you say what - if any - extras you get? I did see one of them says 'experimental - sms' so maybe that adds the ability to send sms?

Finally @meritez - many thanks also to you for replying to my post! It's interesting that you think I have pre-release firmware. If you are sure I have a VN007+ I'm happy to flash it - but what firmware do you suggest? Also, does the VN007+ have a boot recovery or similar mode so one can recover from a bad flash?

Thanks to you helpful people.

@radiomean

The firmware updates improve the web interface and I'm struggling to see any other improvements.

If you're using the X21 in bridge mode with WiFi switched off and external antenna the new firmware may not benefit you.

The dloader I found on GitHub may help us find out if the modem firmware is being upgraded but I haven't got around to checking yet.

So do you agree that if my VN007+ is working ok, there is no point updating it? (ie, don't mend it, if it's not broken...)

I haven't upgraded either, no problems, although there's a rumour an update could bring modem improvements and better speeds with it. I'll wait until it's verified. :)

So I'm currently using 1.10.23 version and that's been the best version so far. I've tried several newer versions mostly to get SMS access for Three's awkward customer service and login and they worked but ADB access was disabled and so no superuser access which I need for cell locking.

If someone could modify an SMS version with superuser, it would be formidable.

I'd love to have some more time to tinker with it, but alas I am pretty swamped. Maybe in the new year.
