Vodafone 3g

On the Vodafone coverage checker when you search a location and then click 3g it comes up with the coverage in your area

If you tick the planned coverage then it says no coverage in all of the UK.

So how do you know when Vodafone will be switching of 3g at your local masts if you cannot look at planned coverage.

They say this on their website ( https://www.vodafone.co.uk/help-and-information/3g-switch-off ):

When are you switching off 3G in my area?

We’ve already switched off our 3G network in Plymouth and Basingstoke and will be continuing our national shutdown throughout 2023.

We’ll be starting in June with Hull, Oxford, and Greater London before moving onto the South of England. The remaining areas of the UK will be switched off later this year.

They don't have a public list of places and dates as far as I'm aware, but at this point I think it's better just to assume that most places won't have 3G by the end of the year.

I'm already starting to have issues despite being in 2G/3G/4G area my phone drops down from 4G to E in certain places for about 10 seconds before moving back to 4G as before it would go to 3G and straight back to 4G

When I forced my phone onto 3G it's still available in these areas

Have had this happen in multiple areas across the UK where it has been fine before.

This has also happened with multiple phones

Moving target. Now over half way through the year so expectation should be 4G. Those with 3G only devices need to change to O2 provider or seek alternative (new phone or a mifi)

Can’t believe I am recommending O2 but nothing surprises me now with the present state of uk mobile. i.e it appears to be getting worse not better.

Yes as you move away from the mast you hit thresholds. I think the providers are currently changing the policies to remove the RAN change to 3G. Shame they haven’t ensured the 4G capability is there first. Some phones are locking on weak 4g as long as there is enough for voice or it’s the phone’s firmware looking for a 3G that doesn’t exist according to the connection before it drops to 2g.

Sorry but can you explain what you mean by the RAN change please?

RAN equals Radio Access Network.
Vodafone's new RAN profile is removing the 3G element but the 2G EDGE GSM priority hasn't been changed meaning devices are locking on to weak 4G even though the 2G network is available.
