On Tuesday 19 November, I observed a simultaneous outage of both phone and internet services across multiple providers I have sims for, this included Three, EE, and Vodafone - all dead. So I did what anybody would do, and stick my head out the window which has line-of-sight to the local tower and it became apparent that maintenance work was underway to which they must have cut the site power for. Subsequent investigation revealed that Vodafone was upgrading their base station, replacing outdated mouldy 4G panels with a new 5G setup.

Vodafone only came live again 8 days later this Wednesday. The other networks were dead during the day as they powered the site down whilst they were doing works.

What is happening with 3G refarming on Vodafone? Does anyone know if anything has actually happened yet?
Not much they can do at the moment. Their band 1 3G was refarmed (on almost all towers) years ago, and 4G band 8 has a limit of 10Mhz, which they've also been running for a while on the refarmed towers. They could roll out 4G band 8 on more towers potentially, but I'm not sure if this can be done remotely (I assume no, since their band 8 towers in VF host are almost all recently-ish upgraded). They could maybe also run band 8 in DSS, with 10MHz in 4G and 15 in 5G, but I'm not 100% sure on this, and VF are strict about band 8 5G connections anyway.

Oh this sounds like bad news. I ordered a Vodafone plan from mobiles.co.uk yesterday with a number port all for tomorrow morning. No QR code yet they told me it would come at the same time as the port tomorrow. Hopefully it will work or it won't work. I don't want to get stuck with a cut off O2 account and no new Voda working sim.
If I was you I’d get to a Vodafone store if you can.

Well it's started. I just had an email from O2 saying my number is being disconnected today. The port has started, if I call my number I get Vodafone Voicemail. I have no esim yet though.

Just chased up with mobiles.co.uk who tell be that the port is in process and the esim will be delivered by email before the end of the day. To be fair on them they were quick to answer my query and have given consistent information maybe I'm just being impatient, although the process does seem a bit odd.

I should have learned my lesson by now about never porting on a Friday! Hopefully if things don't work out today I can go to a store and get an esim.

I think the fact you get Vodafone voicemail I wouldn’t be too concerned. Like you say worst case scenario just go into a store all call Voda and get a sim swap.

That’s what they did for me, instead of chasing what’s going on he could see the line active so just did a lost sim process.

He typed in a code into my iPhone which displayed a barcode, he scanned it into his computer and the eSIM was pushed to my phone, was rather snazzy.

I’ll leave it until this afternoon

If only more little towns were more accepting of masts in the right locations, we'd have such an improved experience across the country. Nice to see Vodafone implement stuff like this.

My wife's number was to be ported to Lebara today from Spusu.
The new Lebara sim has been stuck on "emergency calls only" since 08:00AM
Iv'e never had that in the 5 times I have ported to and from Lebara
Does not look good
Still Dead..

She's had the number since 2001.
I've quickly changed my opinion on Lebara, I've spoken to them 4 times regarding this and each time the competence gets worse, they sound totally uninterested.
I think now I may move my number away from Lebara and to something like Talk mobile and stop this constant pac dance as my number is very special
