Voneus in Priddy

Hi,

Living in Priddy in Somerset we have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of Voneus wireless internet. However dates repeatedly slip from Jan / Feb to now. 11 properties recently went live but that leaves the vast bulk of the village without connectivity. Part of the issue is the terrible organization where relay points were not agreed up front. Instead Voneus appeared to assume that properties would host relay sites with the promise of free internet. Whilst this has worked with some sites, one of the key sites has refused. This could have been sorted out 4 months ago. With only 31 days until the CDS vouchers run out time is now a major pressure. I am sure that Voneus don’t want just 11 properties as they will clearly lose money but at the moment I am very sceptical they will meet the promises they made all those months ago. I have all but given up hope and any reassurances from Voneus I take with a pinch of salt. I do have a transceiver on my house but it is pointing to a property with no relay capability which in turn is supposed to be getting a signal from the most problematic of the sites. Having taken 2 days of work for the installation and having had holes drilled through my walls I really do hope they get their act together over the next few weeks. Interestingly Vodafone have recently upgraded to 4G and parts of the village can get this. I can if I prop my phone up in the window which means an aerial would certainly work well. Whilst 4G won’t work for me as a heavy user it would be a potentially better and cheaper option for light users.

I believe the extended voucher deadline is now the end of June? Time pressure is definitely a problem.

Do you know if CDS will honour applications made before that date as that has happened with other schemes, provided the infrastructure can be made to work of course and there's some money left in the allocated pot.

Yes, the deadline is the end of June and people with vouchers obtained before the cut off date at the end of November should still be honored. The problematic relay point is on a rise that allows the signal to cover a wide area. Not using this vantage point will cause major issues I expect but why we are finding this out now I have no idea? The property owners who have sites suitable for relay points should have been contacted right at the beginning of the process. Some of these people are farmers who care little about free Internet and others are just plan difficult - assuming everybody will take up free Internet for being a relay was very naive.

Still waiting. I did speak to Voneus and they have said that they are still committed to the roll-out but I see little on the ground happening. Apparently they can claim the CDS voucher if the infrastructure is in place but service is not yet there which is news to me. They say my road is the next area to be tackled but I will believe that when I see it. The communication from Voneus is terrible but at least they have stopped giving out ETAs that are complete fabrication.

I usually get away with my 3.5 Mbps ADSL except when my son is home from Uni as he plays online Steam games with massive downloads ~150Gb.

I am getting close to the point where I will tell them enough is enough and wait for Gigaclear to arrive. Given the expected number of relay hops I can see the service at my house being unreliable anyway, which is important as I work from home some of the time.

Any update on this pureplebogmonste? I see the voucher deadline has been extended to the end of September.

Hi, I'm new to this forum but wanted to ask a bit more about how you are getting on with Voneus. We are in the process of being enabled, however it is some 6 months overdue now and it's been quite a trial so far. I am not one to slate things in public, but I would welcome any feedback so I can update the rest of our village as we are not getting meaningful responses from Voneus (or indeed a reliable service or the indicated speeds)
