VOXI vs TalkMobile - what's the difference?

I'm currently with VOXI, but I've recently become aware of TalkMobile's packages. On the face of it, they seem like better value - I'm paying £12 for 30GB to VOXI, and TalkMobile are offering 50GB for £10.50 and 100GB for £12.95 - the latter on a 30-day contract.

They both seem to be owned by Vodafone although TalkMobile makes it less obvious (just an address in the website footer), and I can't find any breakdown of what the difference between the two is. I don't use any of the social media sites that are unmetered on VOXI (other than WhatsApp, where the data use for a bit of texting is negligible) so is there any reason not to flip from VOXI to TalkMobile?

As far as I can see, they both offer 5G, they both have some inclusive roaming available in Ireland (I do roam in Ireland but have no plans to roam further in the foreseeable). Is TalkMobile speed capped or otherwise limited in some way (e.g. some bands aren't included, or no VoLTE/wi-fi calling, or customers are low priority on the network), or is it literally an even cheaper way to access the full Vodafone network? What's the catch?

VOXI appears to just be Vodafone with a different coloured SIM card, it even says "vodafone UK" as the network name - is TalkMobile the same?

I tested them last year.

On the network side, I couldn't see much difference between them and Vodafone (never used Voxi). Similar speeds, 5G, wifi calling.

My experience with them wasn't good though: https://www.ispreview.co.uk/talk/th...-4g-inc-voxi-lebara.37074/page-26#post-278724

Maybe I was unlucky. I can see them being a good choice if you need a lot of data on Vodafone, but don't care for a pretty app or need to contact their support.

Thanks for the post - the Voda network is good for me but as with all networks it really depends where you live and spend time.

I knew 3x the data for 95p a month more sounded too good to be true! I noticed some CPI +3.9% small print on their website after posting, too, which might be a problem in a year if the situation doesn't improve. The TalkMobile website sounds like the nightmare glitchy Vodafone websites of old and it doesn't sound worth the hassle to save a few quid.

VOXI doesn't seem to have an app at all, but their website works well. I had to contact them shortly after joining (their signup form didn't have a section for 'title' and I ended up as Dr rather than Miss in the system, which has saved me completing a PhD but was otherwise not quite right) and they sorted it in a few minutes with no hassle via live chat.

beware, Talkmobile are rumoured to be removing inclusive EU roaming in the near on future.
also to answer your other question, it shows as Talkmobile instead of Vodafone UK on the status bar and the voicemail says "Welcome to the Talkmobile phone voicemail service"

Thanks! I don't have voicemail switched on at present (one of the reasons I like Vodafone-based networks is that there's a code to turn it off and make it go away, and then turn it on if I'm, say, applying for a job) but crap voicemail greetings on cheap networks get on my nerves, they make me sound cheap. If I have to have voicemail, I'd rather have "this is the Vodafone voicemail for...".

Incidentally, I just heard a little spot on a local radio morning show where the presenters were taking the **** out of each other's voicemail greetings. The harshest criticism was of the co-presenter who is apparently using Giffgaff ("Giffgaff? What? Are you 12?") and the really shonky-sounding voiceover they use on their voicemail service. It sounds like they've just got some random northern bloke to tape it.

that random northern bloke is me.... no wonder he sounds high as a kite, the Bradford air does something to you...

They already have removed inclusive EU roaming for anyone signing up after 14th March. Inclusive roaming in Ireland, Norway, Iceland, Isle of Man and Ukraine only.

This appears to be in preparation for legislative changes:
