Wanadoo 56K

Is it me or is wanadoo 56k painfully slow. It isn't usually but I keep signing on at 37.2Kbps which is slow compared to what I usually get which is 43Kbps. Could someone give me a dialup number that performs well and not the one I am using at the moment!

Using either of these PAYG numbers may help give an indication if the problem is with you or the service:
0845 079 6699
0845 607 5602
Both numbers are charged at Local Rate.

Dial-up numbers (which may/may not be up-to-date) can be found at this unofficial site:
http://www.ufaq.fsnet.co.uk

Alternately, you could try downloading new settings from Wanadoo's website.

Paul, from what I gather, the UFAQ site seems not to be updated anymore :(

But in anycase, there isnt a lot Wanadoo can do about connection speed...

I would suggest getting the gain on your line increased and a reinstall of modem drivers if it bothers you that much wolfboy.

Must admit to having my doubts about it as it’s been a very long time since I last visited the site.
Thank's for bringing me up-to-date.

IIRC, we’ve occasionally been through these ideas with wolfboy in the past, but your suggestions are well worth considering again, which reminds me.......

wolfboy,
I am wrong in thinking you went onto Broadband with Plusnet a few months ago?

I've ordered DSL and it will be installed on the 23rd of June. I have gone 4 eclipse which seem to be a good ISP 4 gaming. 56k will then be gone which I’m really pleased about so I’m not really bothered. I just wondered why I am experiencing a dip in performance.

Thanks

wolfboy

It's always the last mile of the connection which determines the speed of a connection, not *usually* the ISP. Things like noise on the line (hiss, pops etc.) will cause slower connections (not to mention unexpected disconnections). Also a faint signal will result in slow connections.

Call BT on 150 and ask they check your line for noise and also optimise your gain - this is like turning the volume up to get a stronger signal.

Actually, DONT turn up the gain. This reply maybe a little late tho.

From what I know, doesnt the gain being higher on adsl reduce performance?

Or was it a myth?
