Wanadoo Anytime - RAS 718 errors ...

Hi

Is anyone else having problems connecting to Wanadoo Anytime?

For me this has only started recently. Until a couple of weeks ago I could connect first time every time, but now I am having to dial several times to get a connection. Most of the time I get a response quoting a RAS 718 error which means the server hasn't responded in a timely manner. Have they reduced capacity or is there a fault on some of their network?

Is this Wanadoo's not-so-subtle way of "encouraging" us onto Broadband? If it is it may backfire because they will lose a lot of customers. After these problems I would not use Wanadoo for broadband.

Had the same problem too Paul actually- started today. I'd like broadband, but I'd have liked BB last year when it was a lot more expensive then it is now...it pays to wait :) Try dialling the other Anytime number (I have two just in case) it got me on straight away :)

Wanadoo stomps on things ...

Hi Nicholas

Thanks for the reply ...

Another thing Wanadoo does is to stomp on applications ... Internet Explorer, Outlook Express, connection settings ... you name it and they have tampered with it! ... all sorts of bits and pieces scream Wanadoo at you when you load their blessed "connection kit"! Well, I for one, wannna-bloody-don't!!! (Pardon my french)

But I could put up with all that and the work to undo all their fiddling if they would only provide a reliable connection!!!

Why should we have to mess around dialling different numbers? ... we have paid our money ... give us the service, Wanadoo ...

Regards

Paul

Shouldnt you be getting broadband now? You can get many that are cheaper than most dial up packages.

And they wont have nasty software that takes over your machine. (Dont go with wannado).

My guess is that as dial up numbers decrease, they dont like shelling out for the same amount of stuff. I reckon they have decreased capacity.

With web space?

Hi Old Dude

Thanks for the posting ...

I am looking for a broadband package that includes mail and web space and I see that Tiscali do a 1 Mbyte service for the same as I am paying to Wanadoo for 56K Anytime ... I guess I had better go to the Tiscali forum and see what people are saying there!

Incidentally, when I dialled up just now I was connected straightaway ... :hrmph:

I suspect you are right about reducing capacity and support for dial-up.
