Wanadoo/Freeserve - dead "live connection"

Anyone else having problems getting a live connection? I have dreadful connection problems generally but for the last 24 hours have been unable to get a "live" connection. I do find I am getting a dead connection however. After all the dialing and handshake the connection is simply DEAD. I cannot access the default google homepage which is not a big page to download.

I have dual-boot and have tried it in Windows ME and again in Windows XP (SP2). The modem is a Creative USB Blaster connected fine on Saturday night!
:crap:

Have you tried the usual virus/worm/spyware checks?
Can you load pages via their IP rather than a URL?
Is mail etc available via a non web based client?

Just out of interest run "ipconfig /all" (once "connected), you should get something like -

Code:
...
PPP adapter Wanadoo AnyTime:

        Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
        Description . . . . . . . . . . . : WAN (PPP/SLIP) Interface
        Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-53-45-00-00-00
        Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
        IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 81.78.33.231
        Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.255
        Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 81.78.33.231
        DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 195.92.195.95
                                            195.92.195.94
        NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Disabled

Just wondering if you've been assigned IPs/DNS/Gateway properly. :hrmph:

Wanadoo

I have never really had any problems with connecting to Wanadoo. Initially I had a minor problem which was of my own doing but other than that I can safely say that I have had no problems in that regard.
As has been suggested you may wish to investigate the possibility of a virus or similar. At work we use F-Prot and this I have to recommend. I recently was asked to look at a customers computer and he categorically stated that there were no viruses or Trojans on his machine. So I ran F-Prot and much to his amazement there were a number and having removed them his machine functioned perfectly. So it is worth a try.
As far as spyware programs go, one that we also use is Ad-aware SE and that too is worth looking at.
Hope this helps
Dave
