Wanadoo Wireless??

...yes I do, or rather my mate does but it's befuddling!!

The Wanadoo hub thing.. Inventel DV4210-WU Firmware V5.10.7-UK
He has his desktop connected via a wireless dongle that came with the hub..
SexBox 360 plugged in via ethernet..

Brand new Sony lappy cannot connect for love nor money.. It will pick up the network but the WEP key is not accepted.. Into the Hub, disable all security.. lappy still cannot connect.. Been though all the channels 1-13..nada!!

I tried everything and scenario i could think of and no joy..

Any ideas, please??

Have you tried to see if this problem replicates with another computer? That would at least tell you whether it's the hub or the PC itself to blame. Wireless can be a bit flaky at times. Does his Laptop use Window's built-in (XP or Vista?) Zero Configuration Wi-Fi or the management software supplied with his Wi-Fi kit? I tend to use Window's own to cut down background processes. Might be worth a shot trying that but can be fiddly.

Greetings..

Er..yes, the lappy uses Vistas' own doobry built in software.. tho the desktop which uses the dongle he cant recall if it came with a set-up disc or not, as it is the old Wanadoo box before it became Orange..

Ya, at the time i had my lappy there also, which i have connected to a few networks in the past..so i know it can.. but it wouldn't have a bar of this set up. The closest it got was when it took longer than usual to refuse the WEP key 'compoota says no'

Tbh.. i posted on the off chance someone else has come across this and rectified it.. of course, the other option is to go get a diff wireless router :crap:

Post the make and model of the dongle if you can?
I will see if i can locate a driver for you.

Hey Johno..

No.. the dongle thing aint the problem... Its gettin the lappy's inbuilt wireless to connect that's causing the kerfuffle :(

Thx tho ^^

Those liveboxes/orange boxes are a pain in the arse.
You have paired it???
When you connect a new device eg laptop or a 360 via wifi you have to push button 1 on the livebox.
The wifi light will then start flashing on/off, this means it is ready for new devices to connect.
Had this problem with my laptop refuseing to negotiate the wep key untill i put the router in to pairing mode.
After 2 mins it will go back to normal.
Just in case you have'nt tryed this.

Yes, I saw the pairing mode setting and gathered that could be significant...however he has no instructions. A quick google found somat about buttons but..i forget now whether i couldn't find the button.. or it just had an off switch...

I shall go look again tho, thanks....

lol.. I really see no need for it to be so complicated!!

Hi-de-Hi..

Just back from my mates..and all went swimmingly. Press of the button.. tap of the key.. HUZZAH..lol

Thanks to everyone, once again..another problem solved :)

Glad that is sorted; I was just going to say that some wireless routers require you to connect through a wired port to set them up before you can connect via wireless; something to remember in the future.
