anyone help:crap:

Re-installing Windows was a bit drastic...That should have been an absolute last resort..

First off....The silly questions...
Do you have an upto date virus checker installed and working?
Do you have a firewall?
Do you have any ad-aware type programs at all?

You say that your comp freezes up and you have to reboot it. That to me (And I am no expert) sounds like its your computer rather than the interweb.

Have you recently installed any programs around the time you started getting drop outs and hangs?

Do you have another modem or router to rule out the modem dragging the system down?

yes got all the protection you can wish for. that was the reason to reinstall windows because consenus was a computer problem.
posted in case anyone may of had the same problem.
not in postion to try another modem!

Obviously a long term problem

I have only recently experienced this problem, started late October and drops out regularly, up to 20/30 tpm at it's worst. However my loss of dial tone only lasts up to 10 seconds and then I can re-connect, but it's a right pain the a**e. I sometimes also experience a freezing of the pc which then needs switching off at the mains and re-booting. I agree that Orange Tech support is useless.
Does anyone know what causes this and how to cure it?

it could possibly be the provider if it has to install software, but even then ld say chances were slim, lm wondering if this is a hardware problem...

aka the read heads freeze on the hard drive, when this happens does 1. the caps lock LED always stay on when pressing it? and or can you open up task manager? 2. do you loose mouse usage, lve experienced this before but l ended up using the desk to smack the drive on to unfreeze drive heads then backup and change the drive lmao.. however altho l think this maybe a possibility l do suggest taking your system into a computer shop for testing if it happens often... cuz this is a weird problem its too hard to troubleshoot without actually experiencing the problem firsthand
