Warning about saving money on telephone line.

Kits

ULTIMATE Member
I have had a few cold calls trying to get me to join a moneymarket saver to save money on my telephone line.

Anyone who falls into the trap to save a few pounds a month could end up spending £80 on cease and reactivation fees for broadband.

Do not let them hard sell you if you have broadband, we need protection for broadband services so once activated cannot be ceased by any alterations to phone line unless it is going full unbundled.

Would you care to be a little more specific, Kits - I'm puzzled!

A quick google of "moneymarket" turned up nothing relevant to phone lines, so I don't know what this particular outfit are playing at, but I certainly didn't get any of that sort of nonsense when I switched my line rental to ICUK, the broadband (with Namesco at the time, but I now have that with ICUK too) just carried on as normal.

Probably just one of those usual cold call scams.

My phone gets put down the moment somebody calls and tries to sell me something, even if it's from a service that I already subscribe too.

I think the dreaded Talk Talk folks are the worst for hard selling you stuff. I once tried to complain to Talk Talk about the practice but I couldn't actually find a single person who said he dealt with complaints, I just got passed from person to person until in the end I got cut off by them.

When challenged, Talk Talk usually blame the marketing affiliates.

I doubt Talk Talk care very much how they do it or how annoying they can be, as long as these affiliates keep bringing in the customers.

These guys probably won't get paid until the new customer's connection goes live, so it's in their best interest to be as deceitful as necessary to make the customer think that they are getting a better deal.

I was doing the warning as any call saying you can save money on your telephone if you have broadband attached will cost you money.

They will move the PSTN to them broadband is ceased you are hit with a £30 cease charge then a £49.95 activation all just to save a few pounds a month.....

I have reported the company that called me to TPS hope they get fined but feel that many need a warning they are at the save money on your phone scam now. They do check first if you are with BT also.....

Very Worried

I am just about to change from Dial-up to Broadband with Fast.net - Calls & Dial-up with Talk but will be moving Calls to BT Anytime - but cant move calls until Broadband up and Running - my Dial-up on Talk is 30% cheaper - BT Anytime doesnt allow Dial - up but I will be keep Modem installed for Emergencies only so wont be using it but I was hoping for smooth change over but I am worried now !!!!

Very Rookie Rookie !!!!!!

Going a bit off-topic there silv.surfer :) .

We're talking about cold calling scams and spam. By the way, who is Fast.net? Google says they're a data carrier and not a consumer UK ISP? Do you mean Fast.co.uk?

Talking of cold calling scams...

I have an absolutely stinking cold at the moment, which seems to be operating in conjunction with a stomach bug, so I am coughing and sneezing, eating is largely a waste of effort because five minutes later it comes back up, and I've hardly got out of bed for three or four days.

This, of course, is not a good time for somebody running the "Windows Security" scam to phone me, because I'm in a really evil mood, so instead of just giving them the usual two word response or telling them that I run Linux not Windows, they're in for a wind-up.

I strung the nice sounding Indian lady along for a bit, pretending to be a sucker, until we came to a gap in the processes that she thought I was following.
Me: "So, you work for World PC Tech, yes?"
She replied in the affirmative.
Me: "Well, OK then, you sound like a sporty lass, and if you work for them you're obviously not fussy how you earn your money, so instead of us messing around with this computer nonsense, why don't I just give you my address, you can pop round and drop your knickers and I'll give you a pound."
The reply was not entirely intelligible, but included the comment that she was trying to help me, and there was no need to be insulting.
Me: "Oh, sorry, I didn't mean to be insulting, I'm just not familiar with the going rate in your part of the world - two pounds, maybe?"
Click.

I feel a bit better now. :)

classic, wish l could have heard it lol.. however l can relate with the flu/bug.. only just feeling human now and l had three exams to take while l was at my worst T_T mind you l passed them with an 85%+ mark so considering l felt like crap.. l think l did pretty well.

There is a warning on my telephone that if you want to save some money please recharged some value added plans...

Can anyone advise me - I had my phone with Talk Talk because I got 30% off my Principle Number in Friends and Family which happened to be my old Dial-up No Contract is involved - I asked if there was any Contract showing - they said no - I didnt let on what I was getting B/Band elsewhere (with Fast.co.uk) so now I want to move phone calls to BT Anytime for £3 month - BT have said they will do all necessary - should I let Fast know ?- I dont want to muck up my B/Band as it is going so well

That rather depends upon whether your deal with TalkTalk means that your phone line has been unbundled (LLU) from BT or not. Which fast.co.uk package did you pick as we can probably tell from that? I would suspect that you shouldn't have too many problems as the line is most likely to be a direct transfer between two BT managed platforms but it's probably still a good idea to inform your ISP.

I forgot to mention I still have my BT Line Rental paying to BT monthly by Debit Card - although Calls were with Talk Talk they have never had my Line Rental - all I know is something ADSL is that anything - I have let Fast know and they said by mail something about line changes and Openreach timescale of few weeks. Didnt understand so told them in reply about still BT Line Rental and that I would phone them Thurs to ask and answer questions - I have to get Calls moved ASAP from old fashioned metered sometimes costing over £54 month to BT Anytime £3. I am sure it they will explain to a PC Rookie I have got their lowerst £11.99 plus VAT 10G allowance.
Thanks for your help Mark

In that case you shouldn't have a problem as nothing physical will change on your line.

Thanks Mark for putting my mind at rest - I have phoned Fast.co.uk because I got a mail saying they have a pause on phone orders - when I phoned support to explain that I wasnt getting phone from them - they said very sorry error re phone order - go ahead no problem just let BT know that B/Band with Fast .co.uk and not changing only phone calls -

Hope BT dont c-----it --p
