Watch out for BE internet.. Debt Collectors...

The Credit card that I use to pay for my service with BE internet expired recently and was replaced with a new one as usual. Rather than BE calling to tell me that I needed to give them a new card they immediately sent my details to the most aggressive Debt Collectors who hounded me for payment almost every day for a week with both telephone calls and suspicious looking text messages to be mobile phone. Can I advise anyone out there to keep a track of Credit cards.Once they expire BE WILL put you on a Bad debtors list and potentially destroy your Credit Rating.....Watch out.......

And here I was thinking Plusnets course of action (turning off your account without informing you of a problem) was a bit rough. Unless BE own the debt collectors, then they are choosing to lose money because, as far as I know, they buy the debt off you for like 60% then chase the dbtor for at least 100% to make a profit.

Guess some peeps have no business sense.

My advice to you charlie is to go down to your local CAB office as well as trading standards office with the name of debt collecting agency and report them for their jackboot tactics as they are accountable for their actions?
also go in to your bank and ask to see the account manager and tell him as too what has happened.
Its 20 years since I done any debt collecting mind you it was different then as every thing went before the courts and the person sitting on the bench would decide  and Be are well out of order:mad:

I had the same problem with 1&1 after my card expired whilst I was out of the UK. On returning home I found the Debt Collectors chasing me. I left 1&1 as soon as possible after that.

My ISP which is NDO emailed to inform me that my Credit Card would SOON expire and advised me how to update it on their web-site .So they are not all bad .
They also emailed me another time to let me know I was approaching my Download limit .

Without their reminder I would have overlooked both occasions

This is why I never get into this business. I'm afraid of these debt collectors and their methods of persuasion. I don't understand why banks have to hire such people to recover their money. Ain't it enough that the loaner puts up his house in case he can't pay on time?

any company who accept continual credit from a credit card have the expiry details on file and it is normal practise for them to contact u by phone letter or email about 2 months in advance that your card is due to expiry and allow u to forward new details, this has not been done so ineffect be have broken a contract with u and fialed the system, not all debt collection companies buy the debt i worked in debt collection and money loan companies for about 6 years most debt collectors will pursue the debt for a set fee or a commission

it would seem like an apology at least is due from be but they will state it is your obligation to make sure payments are paid maybe direct debit would be a better option

that is why i never erver went with aol when i first joined broadband because they wanted credit card details and would not do direct debit for first few months

That is completely illegal. Some of the Debt Collectors are so blood thirsty! Debt collectors have laws that they have to follow. You could get them in serious trouble for harassing you! that is terrible :(. Also you are allowed to say I will only allow written correspondance and they have to stick to that. Here is a list of the laws they have to follow.

Make sure that you get them back. I promise you that you can get them in serious trouble for hunting you down for no reason. It is a criminal offense.

So why do you have a debt relief company link as your sig?

That is a help one for people with large credit card debts to get them to make the CC agree lower repayments and debt free in around 5yrs if my memory is right it is a government scheme or similar...
This is not the same as debt collectors.

Kits, the link is to an American debt relief company.
As it's American...
(a) it would be of little interest to 99.9% of our forum members.
(b) it can't possibly be legit - they don't have legitimate companies in the USA. ;)

From their "How it works" page, it's the usual "let's get some money out of someone who's already broke" garbage:
"Your consultant will help you determine an affordable monthly payment, which, after fees, will be put into your own personal, Special Purpose Account, to be set aside for debt settlement purposes."

When my card ran out and I forgot to update with Be, all I got was a reminder.

I updated my details, they took payment (with no late fee etc) and that was the end of it.
