Weird problem with three broadband

I don't know if this is related to the issues I've been having. I have a Zyxel NR5103Ev2. I have one security camera on my LAN which is ipv4 only. Before I had the Zyxel router (I had Now TV broadband) everything was fine. With the Zyxel, for some weird reason from an iPad I could not connect to the camera.
The fix for this for me was to simply disable ipv6 on the Zyxel. I set the APN to ipv4-only, and also turned off serving ipv6 addresses in the DHCP server config (and reboot). I didn't really want to disable ipv6, but I was also getting weird hangs connecting to some websites and was already a little suspicious.

This also had the effect of fixing the incorrect ipv4 WAN IP address show in the Home section on the Zyxel (see 192.168.1.2 in Wee Bear's image a few comments up).

I think there might be something iffy regarding ipv6 implementation on the Zyxel? Problem is I couldn't debug with a packet sniffer as the problem was using an iPad.

"It’s not a catcha issue."

Nor for me with WETransfer. It simply did not work. No asking me for a catcha. Just sitting there doing nothing.

The other day I did set it to ipv4 but I didn’t reboot my router after that. I have came across someone else on the 3 forums with the similar issue to me and they did set it to ipv4 only and it worked. Which is what was suggested here before. I will try that set it to ipv4 and reboot the router and see if that makes a difference.

In my case I did 2 things to set ipv4 -

Set the APN to ipv4 only.
Turned off serving ipv6 in the DHCP server settings (and make sure to reset any computers/devices etc. in order to pick up the new IP address details from the DHCP server).

It might be that only doing one of these things was necessary/fixes issues, I haven't tested. I just went for a belt and braces approach to making sure ipv6 was gone.

Can you tell me possibly how to do this on my router? Turned off serving ipv6 in the DHCP server settings? I can’t seem to find this.

Network Setting -> Home Networking
Under the (first tab) LAN Setup
Down the page a bit under LAN IPv6 Mode Setup there's a toggle called "IPv6 Active" which I switched off, and hit "Apply".

This turns off DHCP serving of ipv6 addresses to any devices on the LAN. You'll need to restart these devices or turn off/on wifi on them to renew the DHCP leases to remove the ipv6 addresses on them. I think the lease default time is 1 day so they'll all renew automatically after a day anyway. May as well just test with any devices you're having problems with first.

This might not be necessary but I just wanted to remove any ipv6 stuff altogether from the LAN as well as WAN.

Okay thanks. Well tried it and still an issue on one of the banking apps I use. But if I refresh that app within the app on a particular section I am trying to view it sorts itself out the other apps seem to be working but as I said before it’s random when it can happen so will see what happens. Thanks for the advice though.

Hi all,

just an update. This issue is still occurring I don’t know if it will be resolved with a future firmware update. Other people are experiencing the same problem on the Three forums.

One person resolved the issue by changing the settings of the router to 4G only. I tried this and it solved the problem. It’s weird issue is sorted on 4G. However when I go back to the 5g selection the issue occurs again.

Some people have reported issues with PayPal and some banking apps. My issue is only with mainly 2 apps. Starling and nPerf. As I said the apps work to an extent but somethings within the app shows I have no data connection when I do. Or it just throws up an error message so I need to refresh the page within the app a few times for it to work.

Other people have also just enabled a vpn on the router so vpn is always on to solve issue and some folks have suggested it’s the parental control that’s enabled by default that is causing the issue and to disable it but others have reported this does not fix the problem but some are saying it does.

To me it looks like the issue is with current firmware as i don’t recall any of these issues with te previous firmware as once an upon a time I had no issues.

I don’t know if I should purchase like a mesh system like eero and see if that resolves the issue. But then I don’t want to spend money on something minor on some apps but it does bother me that it worked before and I guess that was on the old firmware.

If changing the router between 5G and 4G resolves the issue (i.e. the WAN uplink side), then making changes on the LAN side would be very unlikely to have any impact.

I wonder if this is packet loss caused by interference on the 5G band RF. Unless you have a likely candidate on your premises, there is nothing you can do.

You might be able to catch it in the router diagnostics (ping, traceroute)

In which case I take it back, but I'm now wondering why I've never had IPv6 from Three.
I only ever get IPv6 on their home routers.
Had it on my S20+ a couple years back but nothing on the subsequent iPhone 15 and S24 Ultra I've had since.
