West Kensington Exchange

This is posted on another forum not sure wy BT would move people if it was going to move them further from the exchange since all BT products work worse the further away you are.

Important information for customers connecting on the West Kensington exchange.

You may be aware that your broadband connection currently goes through the West Kensington exchange. Unfortunately this exchange is due to close within the next few months and BT are going to move your connections over to the Fulham exchange.

It's expected that during the connection move you may see lower than normal speeds, these may also continue once the exchange migration has completed. This is because you may be further from the new exchange than you were from the old one and therefore not able to get as good a connection.

The migration of accounts over to the Fulham exchange will start on Thursday 14th August and is expected to complete no later than the 31st December.

If you do encounter severe connection problems during or after the migration please contact our faults team as normal.

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

I think it was actually me that wrote the post you are referring to. The basic reasoning for it is that BT are closing down the West Kensington exchange and therefore need to move all the connections out of there.

This could have an effect on customers BB speeds as they could change from being close to the exchange to a long line to exchange. BT system has such wide speed flutuations and loss of speed doesn't seem to warant BT's engineers time like total loss of internet. Gettig openreach to find reasons for loss of speed are nill they like ot say no fault found and charge leaving customer still on slower speeds.

I covered the speed queries in the announcement I made

It's expected that during the connection move you may see lower than normal speeds, these may also continue once the exchange migration has completed. This is because you may be further from the new exchange than you were from the old one and therefore not able to get as good a connection.

Our faults team here were also briefed as there is a specialised team within BT to deal with faults that crop up during this migration.

Looking at the map of both exchanges those near west kensigton exchange could change from a previous max speed on the upto 8 to below 2meg can't see them being happy since the move will give an inferior service to them from what they signed upto..

My son could never get above 2 meg from BT and he is the distance beteen those two exchanges from his exchange. Would be interesting if those living in the area answerd a few questions once the move was completed to see just what they have noticed in speeds pre ove and after it.
