What actually happens when you migrate from Upp to Virgin Media?

(I am not the account holder for my internet so I didn't see the fine details) I just had my migration "completed" and it was done in about 2 minutes all the guy did was drill a white bit of plastic to the wall and then put the existing Upp installed ONT on the top of this with Velcro and he left. No router replacement no nothing (all the comments I read about Upp migration was that your router got replaced too but I have not had this and the account holder does not know about router replacement either). When I check Speedtest for example it still says I am using Upp Internet which I am quite worried I will be left without internet when the shut off happens tomorrow. I am unsure if they will make backend changes in the near future to change it to list Virgin Media or nexfibre as the ISP. I just don't see how a white box on the wall can magically stop it from not being an Upp line anymore

I am in the same situation moving from UPP to VM. I understand that it is a 2 stage process, the initial bit that you have had done where they just add a white box. Stage 2 is the arrival of the VM Router (apparently with an engineer) on changeover day. That is when you are officially on VM, that should be the same symmetrical speeds you get now. Until then UPP just keeps working as it does now.

I was told yesterday that my changeover date is likely to be the end of July.

I also have 3 UPP Linksys covering an old stone house so I have been told that I will get a like for like from VM so should get the VM Equivalent, fingers crossed.

I am sad to see UPP go as they have been great for me.

I hope that helps put your mind at rest.

The closest you can get from them is the Virgin Media Hub 5X, and up to 3 of their Plume WiFi extended pods. These are available at no extra cost to Volt customers, or Gig1/Gig2 customers - Depending upon what package you preordered with Virgin. For everyone else there will be an additional charge of £8 per month. Otherwise you'd just be given the Hub 5X On it's own as standard equipment for this line.

Hi Koda

Although the details are a little sketchy the transition from UPP to VM is supposed to be different to a new contract take up. Ideally keeping what you had before for the same price. They have definitely confirmed that the symmetrical speeds are inclusive and suggested the Plume pods would be included. However, I am ready with my trusty WiFi 6 Mesh, just in case.

Unless things have changed recently, the Hub 5X Still doesn't have a working modem mode yet so using your own mesh system or router can be problematic, annoyingly.

Sorry for the late reply have only just seen this. We still have not heard anything about a changeover but hopefully that comes soon but to be honest the internet has been really unstable since the "VM takeover" Also pretty sad to see Upp as an actual ISP go but at the same time I've had many annoyances with them since they launched in 2021 (i think i was one of the first customers actually) so hopefully these are fixed when changing over to VM fully. Certain websites will think you are in the Netherlands and report the ISP as Euronet communications BV. including Samsung so my phone always thought I was in the Netherlands and tried to push different language content. The lack of IPV6 support was pretty annoying too considering my old crappy BT line had this, although unsure if VM support IPV6 tbh

Virgin doesn't support IPv6, nor the O2 mobile network

With them both, and the only hints of IPv6 I get is from IMS calling

Been a month since this post and Upp is still working haha. Still have not heard anything about a router change, though did receive notice that there's gonna be overnight work being done in a couple days

After 2 months of horrible communication the service is finally migrating to Virgin fully on Monday. Now I'm curious if their promise of keeping the symmetrical upload and download speeds is true

Was it true, Did you keep the symmetrical speed?

Surprisingly yeah. I'm pleasantly suprised with Virgin Media so far. The speeds are about 400mbps faster than what I was getting on Upp (Supposedly my fiber cable was installed incorrectly by Upp and was being crushed in the inside box and was about to fail? so the installer fixed that, not sure if it's related to the speed bump). The Hub 5x honestly seems better than the Linksys velops Upp were using? I had a lot of weird issues with Apple devices/iPhones on Linksys Velop (seeing Reddit this is a pretty common thing) and it also seems to not decrease in speed as much when further away.
The one thing I am not the happiest about is the ping is about 15ms higher. Major nitpick honestly.
Unrelated but anyone know what Upp is actually doing still as a company? The installer told me that Upp is gone and everyone was being migrated over on the day of install but I've seen their vans park up on my street a couple of times since the VM internet was installed.

what speed did you have with upp? if your on a hub5x now, you can check your package faily easily here: https://www.samknows.com/realspeed/

I was getting about 700mbps directly to the hub on Upp while on Virgin I'm getting 1135mbps directly to the hub
yeah looks like your on the 1000/1000 package, what are you paying?
