What does Android Phone Info page *#*#4636#*#* tell us?

Hi all,

Whilst trying to figure out if the mast my modem connects to uses MIMO or not I wondered if my phone can already tell me this on the Phone Info page.

On most but maybe not all Android phones if you dial *#*#4636#*#* (*#*#INFO#*#*) it will bring up a "secret" menu where one of the options is "Phone information". Tap that, and a page will come up with loads of info on it about the cellular/mobile phone network connection.

Scroll down to the bottom on this page and there's a section called "All mobile measurement info" or similar. There are several columns but I don't know what they all are, and was hoping people here could tell me please. Here's what's on my phone and what I think some of them are:
  • SRV?
  • MCC - mobile country code?
  • MNC - mobile network code?
  • TAC - tracking area code?
  • CID - cell ID?
  • PCI - Physical Cell ID?
  • EARFCN - Evolved-UTRA Absolute Radio Frequency No
  • BW - bandwidth?
  • RSRP - Reference Signal Received Power?
  • RSRQ - Reference Signal Received Quality?
  • TA - timing advance?
If there's a network connection then there's always one line here with some numbers under each column. Sometimes there's more than one line here and I wondered if that told us whether the transmitter is using MIMO or not?

Thanks :)

In a word, no. Lower level tools (NSG or a Samsung phones' Service Mode), or going to the mast and checking its connections per frequency range is the only way.

Given the info you've shared in other posts regarding your location my guess would be that the Three and EE sites at Shab Hill (I think that's the Birdlip radio station site you mention?) and Marsden are going to be 2x2, since they seem to be the best part of a decade old and haven't seemingly (from cellmapper data) has any more bands added in recent years

Shab Hill... oh no, let's not talk about Three connecting to that site from 4mi away for me (I've had O2 connect to one of the sites from a decent distance away, but it's much worse on Three)

(glad to see another local)

Also, I should mention you're right about everything, I think SRV just means whether it's connected to it or not. I get R+P for the primary bands I'm connected to on O2 and EE.

I think S probably means it isn't connected to that band, I don't know what the letter would be if you're aggregating with a band, tried getting EE to aggregate B3+3 and I'm not seeing the 1761 sector.

So refreshing to have some signal on EE without changing sites every 5 seconds now.

Also, I should mention CID is truncated to 5 digits, not sure if it does it on all devices but it does on my Pixel (it should be 7 for EE and 8 for O2 for me).

Hi both,

Thank you for the answers, helpful to know that this doesn't say anything about MIMO, looks like I'll have to get a burner phone and get it rooted!

It seems from what you're saying that the phone info page does show carrier aggregation though? At least that's useful.

Yes, Shab Hill and Miserden are the two masts I'm referring to.

Cheers :)

For carrier aggregation, you should just install NetMonster, generally pretty reliable for showing aggregated bands. I'm not sure if the phone info page shows it that well, but I was aggregating B3 1617 and B3 1761 at that time on EE

What type of phone is it? I believe Samsung devices have a hidden menu that might show MIMO?

Mine's not a Samsung, it just runs stock Android, so I think the Phone Info page is all there is. I'll have a go with NetMonster when I next get chance, thanks for the tip.
Cheers :)

Depending on device, you may get better information with NetMonster (Snapdragon modem's tend to be good), but you should be able to reasonably work out the bands anyways with the bandwidth section).

For example, this shows B20 only but by the bandwidth, we know it's probably B20+1 (I can tell anyways considering I'm getting 108mbps download which isn't really possible on B20 only).

(nice to see Vodafone's n78 PCI popping up again for some reason, guessing they don't sleep 5G here lol)
