What graphics card?

Hi everyone,
Is there a way i can find out what graphics card i have installed on my pc? Its been there since it was built (2 years give or take). I'm wondering if the drivers could do with an update,as, on certain programs..nero 6 for one,all the buttons in the tool bar have the same picture/icon. Very confusing!! I'm not againnst buyin a better one, but, after just buying and installin a dvd writer and usb2 card..moneys bit limited (i understand there's sa good card for around £80,though its name escapes me at this time..i have seen Triaxor mention it on another persons thread). Just thought i'd try the driver route first. When i had the casing off ,installing the other hardware,i could see no names on the graphics card to give me a clue.
Also hoping this would improve its performance in Battlefield 1942.
Hoping you can help. :)

hi , done that,it says,

NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Model 64

the notes at bottom of page says 'no problems found'.

If you're still looking for a decent video card around that price range, probably the best VFM is the Radeon 9600XT for £90

Thanks, but think i'll stick put for now. I can see my nvidia isn't the best card for the game, but it does the job for now. BF1942's the only game i have on my poota so i'm not too fussy but splashin out at this time. Besides,i'm not that good at it!!! Saw one guy called 'cannon fodder' i thought it very applicable!!!

The Radeon was the card i refered to in a previous posting, though it's name eluded me at that time.

Ps. Does a better graphics card make the game load faster? It may be my imagination, but i'm sure since my driver upgrage BF42 loads a tad faster?!

No idea what my memory is!! Cant remember  . I'm now on a 512 BB connection,so thats not so bad. I been told too, that a better graphics card will make my webcam faster too, which is nice as it was one of the main reasons for goin BB in the first place. I'm gonna look into the Radeon cards and go for gold. Unfortionatly,i dont believe it will assist me in staying alive for longer in BF42!!!!

As for loadin,i'm usually a late arrival. It seems to take..um..well it seems forever but maybe a good minute i guess?! I have to have my graphics set on low or its stop motion. It's all abit pants really..but you get used to what you have, dont you. I realy dont understand the technical jargon,so recommendation is a good thing. Thanks.

I duno about 1942 game.

But on a new game i play, Everquest2, it loads soooooo much faster on my new PC.

Old PC:
P4 2.6Ghz
512MB RAM
80GB 5,400rpm harddrive
nvidia GF 5900XT
Loading times: 90 secs - 4mins

New PC:
AMD 64 FX-53
1GB RAM
74GB 10,000rpm harddrive
ATi Radeon 9000 (crap, temporary)
Loading times: 10 - 30secs

I found i have a 1.7 gig Pentuim4
256ram

Which will have to do. I only play 1942 on here,a have xbox for games really. I'm still impressed enough when i go to war!
Looked at the download vid for Everquest2...looks good!! Bet ya can lose some time on that 'game'.

Need A New IP, I've ordered the 9800pro. :)
Did you just use the driver off the ATI site, please?
I downloaded the 26mb one for XP..is that the right one?

Yea..
Drivers&Software: Windows XP: Graphic Driver: Radeon Family (i have Radeon 9000).

Theres 4 choices in that list:
Radeon Family
RAGE 128 PRO Family
RAGE 128 Family
RAGE PRO Family

Either of the 2 PRO types there, id presume is best for your graphics card.

Don't forget that if you're running Windows XP, you need to download & install MS DotNet 1.1 first before installing the Catalyst 4.9 drivers with the new control panel.

If you're installing the "plain" Cat 4.9, then you don't need it.

The newer Control Panel is supposed to make it easier to upgrade to newer drivers etc., without having to uninstall etc. first.

I dunt really understand, but if the outcome allegedly 'makes things easier' in the long-run, i'll go with it.
Cheers for your input Biggus. (you a Monty Python fan by any chance??)

the driver from windows(26 mb) is the lastest driver - but there is also a 42 mb 1 - which is the same but with the CATALYST Control Center, - that allows ur more tweaking

you could also get a omega driver - which are based on the ati drivers - but made by some1 else - they used to be better for gaming -but at the moment the ati 1's are better.

http://www.ati.com/ - goto drivers and downloads - click on windows XP - graphics driver - radeon family.

also here a review about the ati vs omega http://www.absoluteinsight.net/1443.

oh - what do you think about ur new card ?

I downloaded both the ATI drivers, plus the thing-dotnet(to go with the 42m driver) -aint that to do with networking though? I'm only on a single home pc,and to be honest..i really dunt understand when it gets technical..simple is hard enough!! :) Pootas are fine when they're workin alright!! Also got an Omega down too, just to be safe, but was hopin to stick with ATI. Either way it'll be heaps beter than what i have now.
Yes,thanks..it was the Radeon family drivers i downloaded.

As for the card...I'm still waiting.
