What graphics card?

think i ordered my card on tue and got it thurs - if u ordered on thurs you should get it on mon - (i hate weekends when i order something)

i just use the sti 42mb driver, To tweak it - all you do is move a slider (left or right)!

Yeah the weekend :hrmph:
I ordered on Wednesday, from the link you posted. So won't be too long now, just cos my internet's now broad band doesn't mean the post man/woman is.

Well the 42 driver sounds easy peasy then!!! If it works for thee,i'll give that one a shot too.

The next fun's tryin to put it in!!!!

Cheers pal.

Yey, card arrived today!!! Dint get any instuctions though,so i'm gonna just look at how the old one's connected and copy that. May get time to give it a bash tomorrow night (Friday).
If you see this before then, do i need do anything about the old card (uninstall or set anything up) before i un plug and go putting the new one in? It'll be my first time doin a hardware job. :crap: Lookin forward to seein the fruits of my labour though!! :)

uninstall old driver - turn off PC - put in new card - put monitor cable into back of new card.
turn pc back on - install new driver - then restart pc

everything should now be sorted

try ur best to only hold the sides of the card and not the middle !

:D Got it in and workin fine!!

It's rather good isn't it?! Had a quick go on BF42 on highest settings...wow!!! Need to play a little to get it to run smoothly but i like it.

Any clues as to what the cables are that came with the card?? I got a yellow ended (what looks like a video lead) one, and a black multi pin one. Can you enlighten me please?

Still playin around with the settings...gotta try put stuff back as i had it before. Had to change my resolution back to 800x600...it put me on 1024xwhatever can't read the small writing!!!

Cheers though IP, suitably impressed here....and easy to fit too!!! :)

i've never used them yet - as i mainly play games - the two small things are convertors
(male to female)
the two leads are for connecting up to something - not to sure what - either a tv, stereo, digital camera or something like that
i'll ask the guy that recommened i get it and see what he says

BF42 is also memory hungry (esp if you have mod's such as DC and DCX installed) so to make it run smoothly I personally would recommend 768MB minimum as lower the games starts to stutter here and there :)

memory does have alot to do with it aswell and is cheaper to upgrade

you don't really notice the change - untill you take it back out !

i just built my new pc and used my memory and dvd writer out my old 1 - took out 1024mb - and put 256mb back in - and the PC is very very slow at everything.

* the new driver is just out for the radeon !http://www.ati.com/support/drivers/...prod=productsXPdriver&submit.x=11&submit.y=11
last new driver was over two months ago!

Cheers for the driver link IP, and for your other post regarding the wires.

So,would upgrading the memory make BF load faster?? It seems now i got the grafix card and obviously put the 'in game' grafix higher,it takes forever to load!!! :(

Triaxor...i think thats why i had so much trouble with Galactic Conquest,is my memory...so for time being,i've given it the boot..i'll stick to ak-aks and bazookas for now.

Galactic Conquest isnt a Co-Op game (botmatch) and will crash if you try to run it as such, however, if you play it as conquest, capture the flag etc.. (online) it should run ok if you meet memory requirements (less mem, more chance of crashes, but more often than not, it will just stutter)

how much mem have you got?

I got 1024MB (PC3200's) and BF42 runs flawlessly I must say, 512MB is the Barest minimum for comp usage I would agree, but if you look at mem usage while running BF42 running in background and you will find 600+MB is being used so virtual mem would be used for BF42, and if you only had 512, then that would explain the stuttering..

:o i have 256ram. This is another thread i posted on said issue...http://www.ispreview.co.uk/talk/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=16540

I guess that explains alot then eh?! Though it does run BF well enough, the odd stutter as you said though.

I dont really understand what you said bout GC (bot-match)...both BF+GC i only play over the web(have never played a single player game of either),i presume i'm playin real folk from other parts.

IP,cheers..i'll have a look at your link in a bit.

Checked the link...all sounds rather complicated to me...but pretty much answered my question. Thanks for your legwork. :)

its a good card but unlike the GT and Ultra varients the 6800 NU (this 1) only has 12 Rendering pipes whereas the other 2 have 16, also, the other 2 have double the memory (DDR3 as apposed to DDR), but in all fairness, it would give an 9800 XT a run for it's money :)

It'll do a lot more than that, I have a 9800Pro @ XT speed in my 2nd PC and it's nowhere near my 6800NU @ 400/900 in terms of performance or image quality, even whent the FX is @ defaults). Once you get into higher res & IQ settings, the 6800 is up to 2x as fast (Doom3).

That said, the 9800Pro/XT are still damn good cards, but they are starting to struggle with "full-on" DX9 games.
