What if I don't need CF's router?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I'm about to sign a 2 year contract with CF and I won't need their router since I have my own equipment. I'm wondering, can I just give it back to them in exchange for a small discount or will they ever need me to troubleshoot with it if there's an issue.

Will they ask for it back at the end of the 2 years? I'll probably be with them for a while, what if I sell it and if/when I switch providers, if they do ask for it back I'll just buy a second hand one on ebay or something.

I know it's a lot of weird ideas, but just trying to save a bit of money :D

I think (personal opinion) it's always best to keep the ISP supplied router. If something goes wrong, they won't know how to support all the many routers out there and they probably would refuse to do so. And if their support person might just blame your router for every problem. So best to keep it, if you don't need it test it works on the install day then put it back in it's box and put it in a cupboard somewhere until you need it / in case you need it.

100% this, always keep the supplied router and use it whenever you have to do debugging or ask for support!

Makes sense. Even though I doubt they keep track of S/N of the equipment they send, it's not worth the risk or hassle. If in a few years they ask for the router back and I can't quickly find one on the second hand market and have to pay a penalty, it won't be worth the £60-80 they seem to go for on ebay.

And yes if there's an issue it would be nice to have, otherwise they might blame my equipment for it. But it's annoying I have to store their stuff, it's just gonna take up space of which I don't have much.

Though unlikely, the moment you run into any issues with the service the first thing they'll probably want to do is run diagnostics on the line which may not work without their software on the router at your end. Plus they'll probably tell you it's your equipment that's at fault until their own equipment produces the same issue. I'd definitely be keeping their router.
