What product is this?

Hi,
An old friend has just had 'fibre' installed at his work, at a cost of £260 a month, in an area showing on the OR checker as 'no full fibre'. The install is a box by the front door (passive) that links indoor and outdoor fibres (complete with the 'laser warning' symbol) and the upstairs a proper (2 incoming redundant mains etc, rack mount) OR fibre router / media converter box with a couple of RJ45 Ethernet.

No idea of speed (not commissioned yet) but what product is this likely to be? Was ordered 'direct from BT'

More than likely a leased line at that price

Yeah they have come down a lot in price in the last few years

Yeah, i reckon 100% its a leased line. Ask him whos doing it for him and send me the details if you can.

If its legit then its amazing value. It would be interesting to know slot speeds because they may.may not be slow. Hard to tell until tested. Keep us informed.

Its a ok price not amazing value, depending on your location you maybe be able to get better speeds or cheaper, it really does depend on your location, install costs.

Are you really willing to pay 250 quid a month for a internet connection?

To be honest with you ballisticbathtub leased lines are now appearing way under £200 in some places. I did a 100/100 for £175 this morning as example.

Slot speeds are the speed required over the bearere like if you company needs the ability to incease speed as it grows you would ask for a 100/1GB 100Mbps over a 1GB cable or as Martin said above you can go for 100/100 which is 100Mbps over 100Mbps cable.

If it's coming out of the Openreach NTE (usually made by a company called ADVA) on an RJ45 port it's likely a x/100 service - that's to say the actual speed can be anything up to 100mbps and the bearer is 100mbps

If it leaves the ADVA on a Fibre Cable it'll be x/1G - commited service will be either 100, 200, 300 etc up to 1G

Aquiss are right, if you're in a CityFibre location you can now get their "Ethernet Flex" leased line which guarantees 200mbps, but can burst up to 1G (and on less busy network segments, will almost always be up to 1G ) for about £250 per month.
