I really want to go with intel x48 chipset but MBs are £200 + any thing else I can change or add ?

Looks fine to me, though if you play any games that 9600 GT could be a bit behind the curve. If you don't then ignore that comment.

It's not for me. It's for my mate who do lot of 3dmax rendering. What is the best card as some of his apps heavily use the graphic’s card.

Personally I think the AMD/ATI 4850 is still the best value vs performance card you can buy right now (£111 inc. VAT):

There is a cheaper 4830 coming though.

However I'm not sure whether 3DM supports DirectX properly or not, I would assume it does but a lot of those rendering/CGI systems used to be OpenGL only and for that a more expensive Nvidia 9800 GTX+ might be better because Nvidia are good with OpenGL.

Thanks for the input guys, I have changed the case to cool master and changed the graphics card to Gainward ATI Radeon HD 4850. Is any thing me loosing out on not using intel new x48 chipset ?

To be honest there's not much point in the extra expense of an x48 with Intel's new iCore CPU's being just around the corner now. These days most quad core computers are hard disk and GPU limited anyway.

Just for the record, I clocked my Q6600 95w CPU to 3GHz, up from the 2.4GHz default. I then ran a series of tests and saw barely no improvement in performance other than raw CPU processing, which is good for video encoding, math etc. Games gained no improvement, highlighting how I'm GPU / Hard Disk and not CPU limited with hardware that's already one year old.

It's been this way for a little while though and I think people should be aware that CPU upgrades don't really give you the strong bang for your buck upgrade that they use to, unless you're doing a lot of video encoding and other heavy desktop environment style processing (spreadsheets) etc. The one exception is when new CPU designs come out.

Hopefully the new generation of Solid State hard drives will give consumers a real improvement, I plan to buy one at Christmas if the price has come down enough.

how fast Solid State hard drives compare to say 2 x 10k rmp drives on RAID 0. I didn't come a cross a Solid State hard drive other than mac book air but I wasn't very impress
