What's a good way to automatically record all incoming and outgoing calls on a BT line?

I would like to automatically record all incoming and outgoing telephone calls on my BT residential home landline. At present we have a BT analogue line, though soon will be switching to BT Digital Voice. We use a Gigaset cordless phone at home.

I thought it would be an easy task to buy a telephone recording gadget, but reading reviews of some of the recording devices available indicates there can be various issues, such as poor sound quality, or the device not automatically recording a call (in the case of voice activated recorders/dictaphones).

Does anyone have any recommendations for a reliable BT landline automatic call recorder?

There are some expensive options such as the RecorderGear TR600 for over £200, and the REC-780 for over £100, but their reviews are not great. And I was ideally hoping to find something for around £50.

You can buy voice activated recorders on Amazon for around £30, but I understand connecting these to the phone line can be an issue. A few of these recorders come with a BT plug connector that picks up the audio on the telephone line; in other cases you would need to buy a third party BT line audio connector to work with the recorder. But I have read that often the recorder voice activation does not work properly with these BT line connectors, so calls are not automatically recorded.

I was also hoping to find a cordless phone unit that had both an answerphone and automatic call recording built in, but unfortunately there appears to be nothing like this on the market.

The reason I would like to record calls is because my elderly parents are hard of hearing, and when important calls come in (such as from their doctor), they often miss crucial details.

I understand that for BT business customers, automatic cloud recording of calls is an available option, which would be ideal for me. But I believe such cloud recording is not possible on residential lines.

I also searched online to see if there might be any means of automatically recording calls when switching to residential BT Digital Voice, but could not find any such means.

Any advice or ideas on how I can set up reliable automatic home landline call recording is gratefully received.

You can try to get in touch with BT and ask whether they have any such feature implemented already, don't see why it could only be applied to business users.

I'm with A&A VoIP and they have a toggle in their control panel to record all calls and email me the mp3 - it's a feature I use btw, because I often talk to my wife and miss crucial details (as you do). 🙃
You could port to them should other attempts fail.

I was going to write a technical suggestion using asterisk, however it dawned on me as I was writing - if it's mainly medical reasons, why not set them up with the NHS app and get the surgery to give full medical record access to them? They can then log on and show you their details which has consultation notes. That's a free option and not too technical, does that help?

Dropping back to the "analogue phone line" way of doing things:

My grandad has this box.. it does call blocking but I'm sure it (maybe their highest model one only?) also supports putting in an SD card and recording the calls.

However we use Andrews & Arnold now for his number (which then goes onto the Truecaller box for call gate/spam blocking) and for exactly the reason you state, call recording is enabled at Andrews & Arnold..

Sometimes details via phone calls don't get heard or remembered and it's been really helpful when there was a lot of confusion over a payment he had made during a call to the bank. The recording of the call instantly answered the confusion without need for hours more calls to the bank to figure out what had happened!

I have a truecall and for call recording it's not the most user friendly experience. Calls are recorded to an SD card in a proprietary format, and there is no way to access them remotely. I recently moved to A&A and their call recording feature is amazing by comparison.
