When do you cancel the DD?

Hi
Just wanted to ask a quick question.
Trying get away from Tiscali at present. Given MAC code to new ISP and just waiting, for what seems like ages (since 12th May). Original date for new ISP was 19th May but that came and went. Tiscali say it's BT, blah blah blah.
Anyways, when do you cancel the DD? Our payment date, 22nd, has obviously just been and gone, but as the MAC code was used before that date does that mean we can cancel the DD with our bank?
Do we wait until 22nd June payment and then cancel?
Thanks

Generally you shouldn't be waiting any longer than one week for a MAC, but that's for BT based IPStream ADSL lines, while you could be on Tiscali's own unbundled (LLU) network and that would make it more complex. In addition ISP’s have to issue MAC’s when requested, so your DD cancellation shouldn’t affect it.

The biggest problem with Tiscali is their customer support, which is simply abysmal and occasionally says things have been done when they have not. Ideally what you need to get is an e-mail or letter confirming that the service has actually been cancelled first.

Tiscali’s staff have often claimed that a service is cancelled only to come back later with a bill demanding payment, so getting some form of written and dated confirmation is important. Generally though, provided you’re outside of the cancellation date then it should be safe to stop the DD, just be careful with Tiscali.

It might also be worth contacting BT to check whether a MAC request has been made and why it's taking so long.

Thanks Mark for the advice. We're ringing BT up today to find out if the MAC request has been made. We're definately not on LLU, we're on datastream.

Our new (hopefully!) ISP doesn't understand why it's taking so long, as we're not on LLU, but they're going to also chase it if they can. They did also say Tiscali can be difficult about this and we've read so many horror stories on the subject we're definately not going into this blind!

We'll also get written confirmation from Tiscali to make sure it's cancelled.
Thanks again

Thanks for the link. will show it to OH when he gets home.

The saga with Tiscali continues. Line is freed now but new ISP had an error connecting their service as Tiscali had us down as LLU - which we are not and never have been! A stalling tac tic? Probably or just incompetence. New ISP have done all the checking and agree we're not LLU, line free and hopefully we'll be done and dusted by the end of the week.

Good riddance to Tiscali!
